Agreed. I've used both extensively, and I've seen nothing that would lead me to believe that. Turbos mainly get hot because of the exhaust back pressure that they cause, thus causing a 1500* hot spot in the exhaust. Water cooling cools the bearing housing significantly, but not the turbine housing itself.

how come nobody ever runs an intercooler with the inlet and outlet on the driver side of a SHO?

makes sense to me if you can run both pipes on one side......

the turbo for my camaro project is not water cooled. it has ceramic bearings or some nonsense so I was informed that water cooling is not necessary... I don't like the idea of not having coolant go through it but on the + side it will help keep oil temps down slightly... however I don't see how a coolant fed turbo will lower underhood temps at all.

maybe I'm wrong, but its my experience that turbos cooled with both run cooler, thus lowering underhood temps.

I wanted to do that with mine but I found that area very tight for space.
I wanted to make sure everything tucked in the bumper also.

My original setup was as you describe, but the sharp bends needed to accomplish this were probably worse than the extra piping I am using now. AND, it was very very cramped. I can not remember who has my old IC, but he can tell you all about it.

I bought that particular IC from you probably a year or two ago, I haven't got around to that yet. It got both inlet and outlet on one side. It's quite large and heavy as well.
