I've been thinking about this guy's posting on V8SHO.com for a while,

http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/18x8RimsonaSHO.htm

And after further review the KMC "Unit" wheels he has on his 97 are NOT 18x8 as he has stated, but 18x7.5 as I'm sure that we all are aware of this. I don't think he is running 255/40's either they would rub big time!

If by chance anyone is running 18x8 I would like to know.

My Fox 2's are 18x7.5 with 235/40/18 rubber. Tire Rack lists at least one 18x8 wheel so there might be some out there. It all depends on the offset. Kirk Doucette is running 245 series tires on 17" wheels with no problems, so if the offset is correct, he should have no problem running 8" wide wheels with 255 series tires. All in theory, of course wink

Assuming an offset of 35-40, I do not think you would have any rub running 255x40 tires on 18x8 wheels. It is worth keeping in mind that as the sidewall gets shorter, and a 40 is downright short, there is less sideways flex on the tire in hard cornering, so the chance of rubbing due to tire movement decreases at the same time that lowering the sidewall also moves the tread of the tire further out from the strut. These factors should make it work, but for what it is worth, the difference between a 7.5 and an 8 width on the wheel will not have any real effect on if you get rub or not, so you can forget that one anyway. The rim of the wheel is no where near the strut on an 18x8 inch rim, it is the tread you have to conisder.

You confuse me, Kirk. Who's talking about a 98 SHO that's Ebony Satin?
And, by Bull I'm sure he is referring to "Taurus the Bull."

Interesting that he is going to add the Diablo chip. I wonder what that will do to the 6 cylinder performance.

It was in the orginating post..

18x8 Rims on a SHO

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello I was looking at your web site and noticed a lot of nice SHO's. I am including 2 pics of my ebony satin 98 maybe I will see mine with those other beautiful SHO's some mods include 18x8 KMC units 255/40-18 Goodyear F-1 tires

No rubbing K&N air filter magna flow 4.5 " polished stainless mufflers . I love this car the one thing I don’t appreciate is a lot of people only see a Taurus. I traded my 97 cobra in on this do to a new arrival and I thought I could get a nice sedan and leave it alone guess not

bull is for taurus..as in the astonomical sign. Taurus is a bull.
second that **** list is probibly the first honest **** list i have ever seen.

third. a 315/40 has a taller sidewall than a 255/40 and a 255/40/18 has the same sidewall (or close to) as a 235/50/18. so the sidewall isnt that short.(correct me if im wrong.)

Well Geez, I still wonder what the Diablo chip adds to all that......260ish HP? They still got to upgrade suspension and brakes and all the SHO creature comforts. And it will never sound like a SHO. Least I don't think it will...

My Bridgestone reference says this is not correct. I have not checked with other manufacturers, but suspect it is not correct for them either. But this sort of makes sense, when you consider that the second number in both series is the sidewall height. :)

Jason, I glad that your still abusing with the good old crack pipe. God you SLO guys are way too much, the TCOA list is a great thing- go back and beleive thier crp some more.

Just like Brian want to put the 3.0 internals from a SHO into his Vulcan because it will give him (i forget the number of horses in a upgrade) Dude try some helium its way cheaper...

I agree that the duratec will never have that BEAUTIFUL v8 scream at 7k rpm that a SHO has, instead it will sound like a v6 screaming at 7000 rpm. You just can't make a v6 sound like a nice v8.

I like my brakes just fine, infact, check them out on my webpage. 11.5" rotors :) Just a rotor and caliper swap. You should change calipers for safty sake every once in a while any how :)

.4L isn't much, and when you combine a 65mm tb, dual runner intakes, porting & polishing the 3.0 duratec is nothing to be squalked at by its big brother. Some are running 2.5 heads on the 3.0 for an amazing 11:1 compression ratio THAT RUNS ON PUMP GAS! Add 3L valves and cams to the 2.5 heads and you have a MEAN lil motor. And NO cam problems.

That seems to always be the problem Jason. When you're at the top of the food chain, (so to speak) it's difficult to find mods by using parts from other motors. It's nice that the Duratec guys have found a future with beneficial and cost effective mods. But when you've got a unique motor that was only made for 4 years, it's gonna be a little difficult to mod since nothing is too compatible with it.

Uhhhh, weren't we talking about wheels here??

let me put my finger over the hole and inhale........... AH nope still dont see adding all that crap well over a few thousand dollars in a SLO with a bench seat and a colume shifter gets you anywhere. so your even with us.. so we ad NO@ and get to the 13's.

Shit forged rods alone for that little mod are 1000.00 dollars then and if only then you spend a min of what 500 on a decent valve job. I dont know.. I do give these guys credit but with all the money they have spent on making the SLO a SHO they should have made the right decision the first time and just get a SHO.

SHit where are the dyno graphs? 265 at a shift maybe. but as normal HP and TQ numbers I dont think so. and a little polishing of the intake and some MAF stuff we get a 210hp and 235.1 tq to the ground. I forget the conversion on how much loss the tranny causes but its good enough for me for this season. Well maybe NO2 but thats later on after I try to duplicate something that has worked for me.

Actually the main reason Brian wants em is because the 3.0 SHO internals are forged, ie: stronger/

I'm confused, were people laughing at my wish to trick out an SE, or did I miss something here??? Also, were the **** list comments about my list or someone else's??? Again, I'm just asking before I go and get upset about people not giving the Duratec credit. Later.

Don't get upset... Kirk is just being his usual self wink IMHO, anyone deserves credit to increase the performance of their car, within reason and taste. Then there's Fred who could be driving a Countach with the amount of money he's spent on his SHO. Hi Fred!

I think the point Kirk was trying to make was why would someone want to spend a ton of money to improve HP on a car which might be limited. If someone wants performance, why not buy it in the car instead of adding it on later; that's all he's saying.

There's different levels to this of course. SHO owners are notorious for spending thousands to bilk every ounce of HP and handling out of their cars; often to the point where the cost of mods outweigh the cost of the vehicle. Kirk's just relating this theme to the non-SHO Taurus owners, aren't you Kirk? squint

The main thing is to be happy with your car. No defense is necessary.
