i KNEW it would happen one day. one car garages are too narrow!

did a real nice job too. mirror and molding is toast. part of the sheet metal is ripped under the trim. why didn't ford make the the mirrors pivot like virtually every other car on the planet?

oh well, what can you do?

anybody got a passenger mirror or the trim pieces (can you even get the trim frim ford anymore)? although, i'm probably just gonna put in a claim through my insurance company ($100 deductable). they can't give me a point as i didn't hit anybody. but they might raise the rates.

regardless, it looks totally ghetto and needs to be fixed. not gonna park in the garage anymore!

just venting,
Robby

That sucks, I just bought a house with a garage. At least the door is plenty wide.

Check eBay or post an add in the WTB forum.

IMO, forget about claiming it on your insurance. It's hardly worth the time, hassle, and potential expense (i.e., higher premiums).

I took out the driver's side mirror on my '93 with a deer, most of the damage was the mirror unit itself. I just picked up a replacement from RockAuto then spent probably a half hour removing the old and installing the new. The mount isn't perfect, but it looks pretty darn close to stock. You can get it looking pretty good with a little "motivation" (in the form of a dead-blow).

someone clipped my passenger side mirror on my 95. It was so odd...actuall mirror popped off, landed on the passenger seat, and the mirror housing and trim bent inwards somewhat. I glued the mirror back onto the housing, but for the life of me, i could not get the whole thing to mount back up flush against the door. Almost as is the metal behind the mirror had been bent. The mirror is fine (save for a small scrape), the damn thing just won't mount flush. :frown:

I've got one from each side off my '95. I swapped the blue-tint mirrors onto mine, and have both "clear" mirrors sitting on the shelf. One is missing the connector for the wiring, but you can swap that over. Yours if you'd like them. PM me with an address- I can ship them from work for you. Forum donation should cover the freight... :)

BTW- I had to replace one of the triangular backing trims (passenger side) and just got one off a regular Taurus, and painted it black. Worked perfect. Pick and pull junkyard, or when I run over there (probably next week, I can pull one for you- is that the only piece you need?

thanks joe!

i already got the car fixed. got a mirror from another member.

looks pretty decent. they said they'd get it more than presentable for $250 cash.

well, it's not perfect, but looks a heck of a lot better than it did. that mirror did not want to break off. it actually tore part of the sheetmetal when it finally broke off. paint's still fine. they had to weld the sheetmetal back together.

i'm actually suprised the body shop got it as good as they did. the door was totally screwed.

see ya,
Robby
