I bet w/ 350lbs in the trunk, that thing is a pig, huh??

OMG. It's awful. I have a boulder I put in the far rear of the trunk (over spare tire). It handles squirrelly and stopping is a chore. I have been driving like a little old blue haired lady so that rock does not let loose and destroy my quarters. Sits pretty nice for all that weight back there, huh? Each day, it lowers more. I'll take the rock out when I see sparks in my rear view mirror.

CCs are progressive rate, and spring rates are close to that of eibachs. Plus, they are cheap.

SLO coils = garbage

I concur. These springs can work for an ATX. They may require being cut in the rear though. How many springs did you blow through to get where you are now?

Front CC858 Rear CC859. I bought them from Rock Auto.

you shouldnt have to "work" the springs to get them to settle. the weight of the vehicle and time is all that is needed. i dont remember if the Gen2 ATXer cut 1 coil or 1 1/2. ill shoot him a message and find out.

i find it odd that the only problems encountered with using modded Moog coils is only limited to Gen2s. Kenny and i didnt have any problems

My SHO with Gen 1 coils, one coil cut up front, rears untouched:

rideheight.jpg

Over 15k later, the only difference in height is that the rears have settled 3/8 of an inch. Fronts remain at 15, rears are at 13 1/8. I have had it loaded down pretty good during a few road trips too :naughty: The rears dont sag much at all when loaded....

I removed the rocks from the trunk and the measurements are close to 15 1/2" from the top to the wheel well to the center of the wheel on all four corners. This seems pretty high in the rear when compared to the gen 1's above. It looks like it should come down an inch in the rear.

I cut my coils the same as you did, Dale, for my GenII. I had a 1" drop all around, but the springs I have are different as is the front-end weight of the car, so the results were different...

What problems are you talking about regarding the Gen II? I seem to have missed that.

Gen2 has a different rear fender lip than Gen1s.

ok, what springs do you have ? and it seems the most problems that arise among SHOForum users using the Moog springs are those who own Gen2s. Gen1s never have a problem with the desired effects, or at least, that i know of.

Basically, my gen II is not sitting as low in the rear as I think it should with the Moog CC's. I cut one coil off the fronts and did not touch the rears.

SuperG: Can you take some measurements and if possible, provide a pic? I would like to see what the fender gap looks like with Moog CC's on another ATX.

How did you and Dale cut your springs?

They look the same to me. I measured from the wheel well lip to the body accent crease: 7 1/8". Then I measured from the wheel well lip to the quarter panel window: 11 1/8". If the Gen I's are different, then I would expect the measurements to be larger for a Gen I.

How did you and Dale cut your springs?

As sson as I get my camera back, I will take some pics and post them here. A friend of mine cut the coils for me, parallel to the spring top/bottom so it has a flat surface that rests in the strut mount. Dale's are cut perpendicular to the coil, which is a much easier cut.

Find a machine shop to make the cuts for you or get a lot of blades!

fender lip to window on a Gen1 is 13 7/8". from fender lip to body accent is 9 1/4".

Thanks for measuring. So that's 2 3/4" of a difference from the lip to the window. You were absolutely right about the quarter panels being different. I suppose the Gen II's have higher wheel well lips in the rear to give them a more balanced look from front to rear. The car rides great and the gaps could not be much more balanced on all four corners.
