Looking to do something different to the headlights since NO companpies seem interested in making them for us...I seperated the lens from the headlight assembly and was shocked to see that the inside has alot of molded edges and actually looked Semi-apeasing..
So after reading everylast post and thread on here aswell as yahoo....I was wondering why no one ever thought to just abandon the clear lens idea(since this seems to be the snag in everyones plans) and retro-fit some enclosed bulbs or HIDs projectors in there, then repaint the housings the body color of the car....

like these...

how was the fit other than the depth?

The Caddy lights are just a tad taller than our SHO lights, so the fenders would need some modification. IN THEORY, if one were to completely remove the header panel and fab up some brackets, they JUST might clear the hood. You would have to do something about the wiring that runs along the core support though.

God this takes me back. Had one of these in a turbo, removed motor, trans and rear end. Installed a 68 2barrel 289 with 0 miles on it(donated to school when new, set on engine stand since) topoader wide ratio 4 speed, mr gasket shifter with custom shifter arm to fit stock hole, hydralic clutch, 8.8 posi with traction shocks from gt with lx stock exhaust, no converters of course. What a fun car. Later bought another one that had a stock v8 with automatic, that thing wouldn't get out of its own way.

on the headlighights, has anyone talked to a plastic molding place, most larger sign shops can vacume form plastic. they could help you with the correct way to make a mold to form over.

another way is? Do they still make a clear headlight cover? would take alot of fabing.

I have a vacuum table at work, and work with plastics. I haven't worked with clear plastics though, and I think the issue is that most clear plastics fade/cloud/yellow, or just plain melt because they absorb too much of the heat from the headlight.

If someone that knows more can tell me what kind of plastic is a good candidate, I could maybe try something, would just need to make a plaster buck.

polycarbonate (PC) would be a good first choice. A lot of A/M places use ABS and it yellows over age.

Cool. I have a good sized chunk of 0.125" Makrolon left from the minivan windshield, I will try using that.

poly does scratch easier than acrylic, it is a softer material. once you make them you could spray them with EAP sealer, it is made for graffiti prevention and is super hard and microscopic in size. I found it when making my concrete counter tops in my house. pricy but if you end up selling the lenses, it wouldn't add much to the cost. 120 for a quart would paint hundreds of them. it is uv compient as well as acid proof. Amazing product, makes concrete and granite counters harder than without.

I'm going to bump the thread here. I am wondering if some actually successfully did a clear headlight mod on the gen II sho's?

I saw a set on here a while back, and the member sold them to another member. They looked pretty good too. Black/chrome w/ clear lenses and projectors. I will see if I can dig them up on here.

Thanks 93. I'm making a discoball set kinda like the ones you would find on 93-95 GL/LX. I've been talking to Loudsho over on TSOC (Taurus and sable owners club) about it.

I'm working on something right now, but I'm gettting rid of factory turn signal/marker light and installing projector in it. Everything is pretty much ready, but the problem is, I have not time during the day to go to the shop, that works with plastic, to see if they can do something with the lense(has to be clear). Maybe after i deal with sales tax at the end of the month, I'll find time to go there before closing time.

at these prices, I'd rather stick with what I have. I still would have to do a lot of modifications.

I checked one plastic works shop the other day and they quoted clear lenses for me fot about $60. I will have them make it for me sometimes next week. The only thing is that they warned me that it will not be the same as factory headlight lense, meaning that it would be sticking out less. I'll have them make me that and the other thing I will probably make them do is cut out horizontal center out, like about 2 inches and weld in clear plastic instead. So, will see what happens , I will post pictures as soon as I have them do something for me.
