Looking to do something different to the headlights since NO companpies seem interested in making them for us...I seperated the lens from the headlight assembly and was shocked to see that the inside has alot of molded edges and actually looked Semi-apeasing..

So after reading everylast post and thread on here aswell as yahoo....I was wondering why no one ever thought to just abandon the clear lens idea(since this seems to be the snag in everyones plans) and retro-fit some enclosed bulbs or HIDs projectors in there, then repaint the housings the body color of the car....

like these...

If you make a set, I will buy a set from you. Someone I know was going to make me some clear lenses, but he got a new job and is busier than ever. Keep us posted!

Just don't do them like that Fox, or the focus headlights.

I'm sure it's somewhere around the forum, but at what temp did you bake the lights at to seperate them?

I've got an old set of lights and I have some ideas I'd like to try out.

200 or so for 10 minutes works well

your mileage may vary. i've done this in three different ovens, and each required a different time/temp. 200 should be safe, but i'd keep an eye on the first one just in case.

Those Focus lights are ugly, and that '79 Pace car is cool, my brother used to have one even, but it's lights were cool for '79, not for '92-95, and certainly not for 2008/2009.

But I look forward to seeing whatever you come up with.

Thanks. thats kinda how i feel bout it too...but SOMETHING has to be done here..I HATE THESE LIGHTS..

as far as the 79 stang goes, even my 98TA has those square [floodlight] lamps so if i can make the housings look better, it could work...ill keep everyone posted as time goes by..THANKS:thankyou:

I believe he was talking about in-casing the fixture and painting it to match the car. then using projectors though the fixture as the lower pic show from a focus... I think those are hella's

That wouldn't be to hard to fab up... just use the back half of the stock unit for mounting. Use the front lens as a casting template.. 1 problem maybe the side maker lens with a soild projector housing may look strange with the maker lens still being there... Maybe fill in the stock side maker location use the corner lens from a RS/ST euro ford in the bumper facisa. Not sure if all that work would pay off in looks.... may just look strange.....

That was the style I was going for when I did my semi-hack job attempt on my '89:

I'd still like to improve it, maybe redo it in fiberglass, or just part of it in fiberglass to round the edges around the HIDs a little more. For just using a dremel, and eyeballing most of it, I'm happy with the results. You can see my mini-writeup here:

I threw on GTS clear headlight covers to protect the HID glass lenses.

I had been tooling around with some ideas last night when I was doing my fishtank polishing.. My idea for GenII's would be this:

Remove all lenses for headlights, cornerlights, and fishtanks. For corner lights/fishtanks, replace crome reflective material with something similar to what 94-98 Musrang tail lights use... kind of a bumpy looking chrome that looks like it's LED's. Then retro-fit a chrome projector for the headlamps, and still use the chrome on the headlight housing (so it doesn't look out of place), and finish with full clear lenses all around. Would be a total PITA, and would take forever to do, but the results would be fantastic IMO. I'm running HID's, so I'd really like a way to get a projector in the lights without it looking absolutely ********.

If we can get someone to make a clear lens i can make retrofits using real projectors like this here.

Of course this isnt a SHO but it shows what can be done if you have a clear lens to start.

I got an idea for the clear lens :)

Simply cut back the plastic covers so these can still snap on and go from there. All you would need is an outer edge for the to clip on correctly.

I don't think that one is clear tho, they are all smoked, but I wonder if you can clear them... would be interesting to find out :)
