I've been trying to find some way to "customize" the Ford logo on the back of my SHO. Basically, I wanted a Black version of the Blue stock logo. Our good friend bpd1151 passed me a link the other day to a gentleman who does custom Ford logos.

After checking out his website here: http://planetauto.homestead.com/chromeemblems.html I discovered that he will not be taking orders until June for any more logos. Well, since I'm an impatient SOB I emailed him (Scott) and found out that he had a couple of leftover logos that he has already customized. The logo on the back of our SHO's is a 7" logo and this is what he had available in black! Lucky huh?
I think that I will order this although the 89.95 + 6.95 shipping price tag has me a little scared.....
Am I just being a cheap skate? What does everyone think?

Does seem a little pricey, but again, it is a big emblem. Also, it would look really good on your car, so I think if it will install fairly easy and you want it....GET IT. It's only money and it will make the rear of your car look unique. I vote to get it. Besides if you wait and can't get it, you'll really, really wish you had bought it when you had the opportunity.

Thanks Mark. Once again, I agree with you! :)

The emblem has been ordered. I would've ordered one for the front as well, however my Mobsteel grille eliminated the need for that! ;)

FWIW, a factory replacement badge for the trunk is $19.77. So $70 for the guy to do what he does, and from the looks of the picture he does it pretty good.

looks nice zeus. my car is black too and i agree black logo would improve the look. however, it seems pricy... i have other modds to do first, but looking at what you already have done, you are at that point now... plus you only need it in the back... around 100$, not too bad, you just need to cut on the valentine budget lol!
btw do u have pics of the front of your car?b i d be curious to see how it looks.

thx and again, go for it!

Thanks Steve. Im guessing the reason that you asked about the front of my car is because of the mobsteel grille? I actually havent received it yet however I'm planning to do a bunch of things at once when I receive everything.

I went ahead and ordered this logo. I think that it'll be a nice touch :)

Pics will follow.....

Good for you... Am I the only one to think that us, obsessed with cars, spend a lot of time AND money on our toy? It is hard to stop once you begin no? But in the end, in my mind, I think I got a good deal buying it second hand 1 year with 35K km on it and even if I end up putting a few grands on it, it will still be cheaper than any other comparable. We definitely have a sleeper in our hands and with the mods, it will surprise a lot of contenders at the track and/or at the red light lol! I am surprised how fast it accelerate given its weight... the power to weight ratio is not that favorable compared to other cars and still, we pass in front of most of them!

I replaced the front Ford emblem on my car due to hail damage and it doesn't appear to be a 2-piece design like was used years ago. The outer ring is a pretty thin metal and seems to have a rather tacky adhesive holding it to the mounting portion. I'm not sure how a person would get these apart unless there's a solvent that will loosen the adhesive without attacking the plastic.

My rear emblem is off right now. The clear coat was peeling so I took it in to get that and my taillights replaced. They pulled the emblem, but then told me the whole chrome assembly is one piece and would need me to come back. I can grab a picture if anyone needs it this weekend. It looks like there is two magnets that might help to hold it in place.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I visited this site I found (and provided to others)..... it is a bit pricey.

I also am regretting not having ordered them right away, because now he is waiting til June for new orders to be placed.

Makes me think even as pricey as they are, I should've hopped on it before...

When I emailed him, he told me he never did any emblems for a Gen4 SHO and wasn't sure on attachment etc....

That also made me decide to hold off initially as well.

I don't think that the attachment will be much of an issue. I measured the SHO emblem and it is a 7' emblem so I'm sure that this will be a good replacement.
Besides Mike, wasn't it you that said that modding is about "making it work?" How hard can it be to attach a logo to the car? ;)

I would REALLY appreciate any pictures that you can provide Bill! Thanks for offering :salute:

Well, I received the custom logo the other day and the good news is that it is of high quality and looks great! Scott at Custom Ford Emblems should be commended on his work :thumb:

There is of course a small problem that I was anticipating. This logo, although the right size at 7" is not from the back of a Ford Taurus. So the pins on the back won't align with the holes on the Taurus. I wasn't sure of this until another Forum member, Dramsey posted pics of his car all prepped for painting with the logo removed. I then noticed that the holes will not line up with the pins on my logo. Therefore, I believe that I will "cut" the pins and just use a really heavy duty adhesive to attach the logo.

That's the plan right now however when I actually get down to the shop and start to try some things, plans may change. I welcome any advice with regards to getting this emblem to stay secure. :thankyou:

Andrew, great pics and thanks for posting.

It looks like there may already be an adhesive backing on the reverse side.

As far as the guide pins not aligning, you could do one of two things....

Use a pair of end cutters and trim off or cut down whichever pin doesn't line up, or.....

Bust out the cordless drill and blast a hole through the grille itself where the current pin lies in relation to the remainder of the backing portion of the grille.

Just a thought. Hey how much did those run you? Is this the same site I suggested? If it is, I think he put any future orders on hold 'til June 1st.

Hey Mike,

Yes I know that there is already an adhesive backing on the emblem however I'm not sure if that by itself will be enough to keep the emblem on well enough. I actually thought about your suggestion regarding putting a few new holes in the trunk where the emblem will go (not the grille as you said cause that's where my mobsteel grille will go :)This emblem is for my trunk) and I think I may do this.

This emblem is from the same site that you sent me and I am very happy with the product itself. 2 words of advice though...... First of all, get him to make yours out of actual Taurus emblems so the holes line up. And secondly, make sure that he can still do the emblems on our cars cause apparently Ford has recently changed the materials that they use to make their emblems and he can't work with the new ones and customize them.....

That was my fear and what lead me to just order a straight 7" in black from him. When I look at the emblem on my SHO, there is a thin plastic film around the outside that is starting to crack and look like shit..... I think that Ford is using a cheaper material for these new logos.

This emblem cost me $89 + shipping. Pricey I know, but once it's mounted, I'm sure that I will be happy with the results :) I'm sure that a set of white and black ones would look SICK on your car :thumb:

you should be able to go to any body shop and get some self threading nuts with washers on them to hold that bad boy down. when i worked for cheby they use to come with the new emblems.

Sorry I never put the pics up. I grabbed a couple from my phone right before they replaced the whole thing but unfortunately I had to format it and forgot to email them to myself. The pins definitely wont line up.

My suggestion is to cut them off and use the adhesive thats on the emblem. If it's similar to the 3m adhesive tape I used on the wing for my old neon srt-4 it will not go anywhere. In fact I couldn't remove the wing with 20lb fishing line. (It was a lip spoiler so the only thing holding it on was tape.) Just make sure you clean the chrome part with rubbing alcohol before you apply the emblem.

I agree with Billm0066. The pins are for alignment issues. The adhesive on the back is what holds it on. Just make sure the surface is real clean and I bet you wont have any issues.

It will look good BTW.

Well, the new emblem has been attached! It was easier than I expected..... I simply took a flathead screwdriver and gently pulled off the stock emblem. It came off with no trouble whatsover and the pins pulled out nicely. I snipped the pins off of my emblem with a pair of tin snips and simply stuck the new emblem on with the adhesive material that was on it. The adhesive material from the old emblem remained on the car and served as another piece of adhesive to help the new emblem stick.

All-in-all it worked out REALLY well and only took about 10 mins. Check it out.....

I'm really pleased :) The pictures don't do it justice. In real life, it's nice to get that blue out of there and just stick with the black and chrome theme. ;)
