It "should" run with the maf unplugged. Does it have a stock maf? Any kind of chip or LPM in the PCM?

Stock maf (afaik), has a chip from Shosource behind the glovebox; found it when installing the stereo.

I think some people have had problems caused by the lpm or chip being loose as well.

Tough room.

Pull the chip out and see what happens, then unplug the maf and try again.

Do I unplug the gray connector at the firewall (shown below)? Does anything need to plug back in there?

There's a cover for the interface at the PCM/ECU, comes from the factory. But probably lost a while ago. Unhook the battery, pull the plug from the "firewall" side of the LPM, hook the battery back up, and perform the idle reset procedure.

I may actually have the cover. I remember finding a piece of black plastic in the glove box that I didn't recognize.

IT LIVES!!

When I went to pull the chip, I found that the left side of the gray connector had pulled away from the board it plugs onto, making the connector cockeyed. I assume this bad connection is what was causing all the trouble. I must have pulled it loose when I was messing with it after I found it.

In my defense, it doesn't seem like anything other than hope holds it together; there are no positive locks that I could tell, and it's kind of a loose fit.

I left the chip out, performed the idle reset procedure, and gave it a test drive. Everything is normal.

Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it. I just have two follow-up questions (for now):
1. What steps do I need to take to reconnect the chip?
2. What is supposed to hold the connector securely to the interface?

HELP!!! I have a 1999 Hyundai Sonata, V6 2.5L. Here is my problem. Why does the car run when I disconnect the Mass Airflow sensor? I replace the sensor twice thinking maybe I received a bad part and nope. It was still doing the same thing. When I plug the sensor in the car is not drivable. The first 24 hours it drove fine but after that, it would stall, die out and then finally nothing. It drives me crazy. But as soon as I disconnect the sensor the car go's but now the check engine light is on. Did a reading, and replaced the problems but still same problem. Can someone please help me??? Thank you! Christin
