My 96 sho will not start this morning. Cranks over great but that's it. It's been running good but idle was surging a little yesterday. Sorry I have not hooked a code reader up yet or done much research. It's been a busy morning.

Cam position Sensor or Crank Position Sensor.

Also, 96's are cranky bitches. Try undoing the positive battery cable for a minute and reinstalling it, then try restart.

No new codes just the 411 code that's always there. I will try unhooking battery and check fuses.

I'm surprised that no start has no codes. I agree the most likely is sensor failure. Could be a few things but that is where I would look. However, easy for me to say throw parts at something that I don't have to pay for.

Crank Position Sensor will not throw a code.

Have you tried cycling the key 3 or 4 times yet?
Turn the key to just before crank position, let pump run for a few seconds, turn off. Repeat a couple times, this builplds pressure in the fuel rail if fuel pump anti-backflow valve is faulty.

I don't have much time to play with it but I did cycle the key several times. My truck tranny is malfunctioning now too. Back to driving the geo I guess..the has guage doesn't work right. I will probably ad some but there should be plenty. Only 175 miles on that tank. Maybe they didnt get it full. Hmmm.

You may want to check for a stuck IAC. It won't necessarily provide a code, but if you push the gas just a bit and the car starts, that's an indication.

I think the IAC was acting up. I held it to the floor and tried starting. I will try just a little throttle. Thank you

I also think there is a very reasonable chance it is the IAC with those symptoms. Take it out, clean it very gently with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab, and then try it again. Or just replace it. They are not hugely expensive.

Thanks. I will have to research it. I might be able to do at least that much but I have had a out enough working on this thing.
