Ok, well last night I decided to try George Fourchy's (sp?) green loctite repair on the crank cancer / key / timing gear, as documented on the shotimes site.

FYI update on the previous attempts (new key, new gear, lasted 1 week & key sheared in half; new welded in place key, new gear, lasted 5 minutes before it started clacking again): The welded in place key did not hold / bond to the crankshaft at all. The weld broke cleanly on the right side, & the cancer-filling on the left side pulled away from the crank, but adhered to the key.

So, again, I'm going to try the loctite approach, and in the meantime I've got a 3.2L I'm putting together just in case.

Thought I'd give you the what's-up on it.

Well that just sucks Fred. Hope you get it all figured out...but at least you've got the 3.2 to go in it.

Ok, well the 89's sprocket was loctited last night, assembled tonight & I just drove 40 miles home on it. No sign (yet) of the clacking, nor of the floating rpms like before. We'll see what happens.

Mike - go through the past month's engine troubleshooting for the 2 other threads I did on this.

Maybe the whole problem wasn`t the crank key,it could have been that you just forgot to tighten down your battery cables. That would display the same symptoms, right? wink

You mean the one I creamed in front of you? thumbs_u
Oh you can stop the bs right there buddy! :D Jeremy almost had you! I was just too far ahead to see the outcome. Oh, and while we're at it, ADAM, why don't just tell everyone how well you did against my BONE-ASS-STOCK MTX with your modded ATX? Oh woooops, don't wanna start a street racing thread...The supereiors here at the Forum wouldn't like that.

And for the record, that day the first time we ran I had a somewhat crappy start and you kicked the crap out of my ATX. But after we left Applebee's (when Jeremy almost destroyed you with his little ole SUNBIRD...I mean Sunfire), I had a good launch and it was much closer. I was stock, you had a few mods. Of course you'd be quicker. But explain your theory when you ran my MTX, hmmmm??? thumbs_u

Just playin, homie. You knoe I still got your back on those troublesome ATX threads!
