I'm having problems with my car stalling. I had posted this problem before, I am about 90% sure from what I was told that my cps is shot( stalls, than about ten mins later runs like nothing happend). Is there any way to test the cps. I don't have a code reader. Are they hard to change if that is the problem. I see the water pump and timming belt are right there and it would be wise to change while apart right?? The other 10% is I was also told it could be the DIS module??

CPS is behind the crank pulley. Not easy to change. You can take your DIS to Autozone, and they advertise that they can test it.

How many miles and has the 60K tune-up been performed?

As far as the CPS, i would say that is the problem. The DIS rarely goes bad. IF you have your doubts purchase one and switch it and see if it helps.
The CPS is not hard to change but is envolved to get to it.
When you do decide to change it the Lower 60K should be done also why you are in there.
Change Waterpump,CPS, Timimg belt,Drivebelts, Cam seals if they are leaking bad and the front Main seal.

The front main was the demise of my CPS on my 89. It shut off from time to time and then one day would just not start. I changed the above and know it runs great.

Just so a search for 60K. Study up on it and if you are decent with tools it is not that bad. I was really worried about it and it went fine.

Before you go to all the work to replace the CPS you should take 5 minutes and run the codes. You do not need a code reader to run the codes, all you need is a paper clip and to read the instructions on http://www.midwestsho.com , they also have a section where you enter the codes and then it tells you what they mean on the site.

This has been a major help to me in diagnosing problems with my SHO's.

The symptoms you describe sound like a bad cps, usually this is caused by a leaking waterpump.

I bought a code reader on the weekend. My SHO just stalled on me 10 mins ago, at the stop lights.... I got home and tried to do the KOEO test. The result was code 22 but I got it twice  The code reader has a light and a beeper. I have never used one before, but I had the book right in front of me. What I got was.... beep beep pause beep beep long pause beep long pause beep beep pause beep beep. I did it a couple of times and got the same results. Does this make any sense to anyone?? Or am I doing something wrong?

I got the same results using a paper clip inplace of the code reader. flash flash pause flash flash long pause flash long pause flash flash pause flash flash. code 22 is the map sensor. Is it common that it flashes twice? In the manual, the long pause flash long pause is a separator flash. But I am getting code 22 twice. Or is it just repeating itself? Please be patient with me I haven't done this before. Why I am stuck is from what I have been told is that my CPS is gone. Would the MAP sensor cause my sho to stall out of the blue??

The search button works wonders on this forum :thumb:

I found this:
http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=8267&highlight=Map+sensor+code+22

and this:

In short order. Now I have no idea if the baro sensor will cause your symptoms. I have never gotten a code for the baro sensor on any of my SHO's. If it were my car I would replace this sensor since it is easy to get to and fairly inexpensive and clear the codes, and then run them again.

I just got a new BP sensor yesterday. Noticed on the one thats in the car it has the electrical plug and beside it is a plug for a hose. On the car there is no hose hooked up??? And I can't find one. Is there a spot that I sould be looking to see if it for some reason it got bypassed? Thats why I was getting code 22 then I'm guessing.

It doesnt have a hose connected to it at all. It looks like a MAP Sensor. MAP reads manifold vac., BP sensor reads Berometric pressure. :thumb:

Thanks guys for all the info. I will get it changed and run the test to see if the codes are cleaned up, or if any new ones surface........ Thanks again.
