Cps Shutter Wheel Damage

while in the process of replacing CPS noticed that the shutter wheel has a corner that is slightly damaged. one corner is slightly turned upward. is this fixable? ive tried to locate another one but like other parts for my 93 they are no longer made or i cant find a place that has them. can anyone give some info about this? what are my options? thanks in advance

A pic would help a lot, your best place to find a new one if you think you need one would be the WTB section on this forum.

I had a similar issue, but I bent it back as uniformly as I could. No problems for me. It's just there for a magnetic signal, and if it's bent back properly and "straightened" out to where it's not gonna chew up the sensor, then it should be good. Or at least to my knowledge and experience.

thanks guys..will try and post a pic tonight...a member wrote and said they may have one...i know this may be a different subject but ive read the project phoenix 60k and noticed the post above that says gap the CPS...where exactly do you gap? between the cps and where the shutter wheel passes through it? looked at pictures on site but cant tell...again thanks and will post pic of shutter wheel this evening...

I think you should be able to get away with carefully straighting it out. Use the old crank sensor to test to make sure that it doesn't hit it it. The gap as indicated by Brian is .030" Once you can confirm that the veins are straight enough it wont scrub the sensor you can put the new one on.

I've got it straight enough now that it won't contact the CPS, but there's still some variance in the gap between vanes. I've got it in a range of 0.65mm - 0.95mm now, anyone know offhand if that's "close enough"?

It just has to pass through the CPS without contact. Shouldn't be hard to find a used one by posting a WTB ad here on the forum if you feel like you need another one.

that will be fine - as posted above it must pass through the gap in the cps without contacting it, whether hot or cold. that is all. BUT, if the spacing of the openings has been tweaked, that is very bad, since that will make the pcm think that the crankshaft speed is not consistent - so I would check that spacing somehow.

The spacing measures fine, as much as I'm able to anyway - sorta unrelated, but do you know if the CPS/ECU reads the shutter wheel as a rising or falling edge signal? I meant to look before I pulled everything apart...this will be running on a Holley HP EFI setup so if the shutter spacing is making it screwy, I can always just modify the ring and change the # of degrees advance accordingly...

The old CPS had worn a groove into the ring so I'm sure that wasn't helping things...the donor car had a blown up MTX so I was only able to move it when certain pieces aligned properly but it seemed pretty anemic, that might've been part of it. Mechanically I couldn't ask for much better as far as the internals.

I believe that it senses the rising edge (the beginning of the metal piece) but that is an assumption on my part.
