Well the symptoms were as follows:

Engine would randomly cut out while driving. Car would stay dead for 3 to 25 minutes. CPS right? Well I would get positive tach response. Codes were strange: like numbers that were not on the chart. I did find out that I was reading the codes wrong and that I did have a 211 PIP failure which is the Crankshaft Position Sensor signal missing or irratic.

With the help of Chris and Greg and of course Scott Patterson, I replaced the CPS.....and the dreaded, while you are in there, you mind as well do the Timing belt, water pump, and other stuff.

I am happy to say that the car is running flawlessly and I saved tons of money. $250 out of my pocket (CPS, Water Pump, Timing Belt, and 2 O2 sensors). Only took me 10 hours total for the whole job (3 trips to store, one lunch break, and tons of Coke drinking BS time.

Public thank yous to Huntervf, SDPATT, and one non forum guy: Greg.

Back in Michigan ... again.
Well...even though I did little more than turn an occasional bolt & give you bad advice (like removing the crank sprocket) I appreciate the nod, and I'm glad everything is working a-ok thumbs_u

Great job Michael and thanks for your thanks. I replied to your email but received a mail server error of "exceeded storage allocation."

sunny San Juan Bautista,
I also would like to thank Scott for his documents. thumbs_u I had a blast doing my 60K. Not only would it really suck to spend up to $1500 paying somebody to do this, there is no way in **** I'd trust somebody on the clock to do as good a job as possible. Just how much time would a professional spend cleaning out the intake manifold and scooping crap out of the head intake ports? Or checking and rechecking valve clearances if they have even the slightest doubts? There's just so much opportunity to take your time, do it right, see how everything goes together. Plus I'll wager that with every new member to the 60K club, that owner will be far more likely to do the next 60K on time, thus insuring the most driving satisfaction and highest reliability.

(Raises beer ): Here's to all the DIY 60K'ers! thumbs_u

Great job! Good thing you remembered to gap the CPS correctly. One mistake that I made was to not put the lower timing belt cover on before I put the crank pulley on. It was a timely mistake. BTW, I forget but does the middle timing belt cover go on before the lower?

Hmmmm Chris....ever do that before?

This was my first timing belt project, so I was very nervous, but now I feel I could do any SHO again in a blink.

Actually Chris and I were in awe at Scotts notes and how much they helped. There were two lines on the timing belt near the bottom. Hehe...one for 3.2 and the other for 3.0. His quote exactly.

Oh Scott: new email is [email protected] as I was getting too much junk mail at the other address. I will send you the email just in case you dont read this.

The other noteable concern was that I started to tighten the tensioner backinto place and still had the drill bit in the hole. Thought I would pull it out after the bolts where secure. Kapliiiiing!!!!.....ahhhh what was that noise? And where is the other half of my drill bit? Did it fall in there? DOH!!!! As I was about to pull off the belt, I saw the little piece on the ground. Matched it up to the piece I had and whew! I was happy.

Belt cover: I started at the bottom and worked my way up.

Harmonic balance puller: 14.95 to buy at autozone (as I'm sure Scott did) I got a free rental for 15.00 returnable deposit as I am like 1 mile from the store.

Let me tell you, I love the ATX tensioner pulley on that timing belt. It is nice and simple.

Oh....and that battery box on the 95 doesnt have slots in it, so those bolts had to come all the way out. Thanks for losing one Chris.

All said and done, Breakfast and lunch for my helpers plus lots of coke thru the day, I came out smelling good. See Scott, if you lived in Michigan, I could have bought you breakfast at the greasy spoon down the road. And FYI, they do have great biscuits and gravy.
