I have seen a few questions about the CPS sensor and it is similar to my problem, but I have no codes being shown. The car died on me and only restarted one time after that. After 6 hours it would still not restart. The tach works when I try to start it and it kind of spits and sputters, but never really starts. I even thought of the cam sensor, but like I said NO CODES!!! Right now I am at a loss and am thinking possible head gasket.

Hook a timing light up to it. If its getting a signal the CPS is probably OK. I dont know whether your car has an LPM or not, but if it has a chip, check to see if it has fallen partially out... Good Luck!

Alan, I sent you an e-mail earlier this week regarding the dis. Are you having problems with your '89 or the '91?

Lou,
It is the 91. I picked it up from SC yesterday and after about 80mi. the engine died (original post). Had to rent a car dolly to get it here to Norfolk. I pulled the crossover tube to the intake and I found antifreeze in it. The car will not start but the engine is not seized. This sounds like the head gasket to me, but I want to make sure. The 89 is apart right now. I am doing the timing belt, water pump, CPS, UDP's, and just about everything else to it. I know have to f@#$%*& SHO's that don't run now. Don't you love how life goes sometimes. Did you get your motor mounts done?

Yea, all 3 are in. That sucks having 2 down. I hope you got a really good deal on that '91. Head gasket for sure. I think when you start pulling things apart you should drop the oil pan and check the bearings. I'm guessing there's plenty of miles on them already and antifreeze hastens their demise. Good luck and keep us up to date. Are you getting the work done somewhere or are you trying to DIY? I know they have bays and lifts on base to make things easier. wink

I am doing it myself. Taking it to the base is more of a pain that its worth. Do you or anyone else know the best place (cheapest) to get head gaskets? I paid $1900 for the car. If this hadn't happened it would have been a good deal. Hopefully I will get the 89 together in a few days so I can drive one of them. If you would, hit me up with your phone # and send it to [email protected]. I'm not a fast typer and I have some questions that you could probably help me with. I'm on leave right now until the 25th so I have a lot of time right now to get this stuff done (and head gaskets will take a while).

I haven't had to tackle the head gaskets yet so I'm not sure about aftermarket. For Ford oem parts no one I've seen can beat Fordpartsnetwork.com. Torrie responds quickly and has the best prices.
