A dreamer on Facebook got me thinking about a RWD twin turbo 5.0 Taurus. Now I understand what it takes to make that happen and its not a bolt in or even a massage metal to fit swap, its a full custom job. Going from transverse to a longitudinal driveline, squeezing the 5.0 in the engine bay, moving the firewall, enlarging the tunnel, etc.

But if a 2015+ mustang was the donor, you get the 5.0, the IRS, 6speed or 10 speed transmission, similar generational wiring for ease of integration. The IRS could in theory be made to fit in the existing bracketry for the awd rear differential, and I believe the tunnel would be the only real hurdle along with adapting the engine mounts, but the Mustang front spindles could be adapted thus allowing for bigger brakes.

What's the point? A twin turbo v8 that can still wear the ecoboost badges and be a super sleeper with the potential of retaining all of the creature comforts of a daily driver. I'd start with an sel or pi platform (my SHO would not be the test dummy) less parts that would have to come out and cheaper to get ahold of.

But whatcha think? These platforms are all but ignored and while the 3.5 can make insane power and keep the awd, a rwd turbo v8 would be great with less limitations.

Now you fully understand why I made the jump to a twin turbo v8 with a rear wheel drive bias AWD system.

I loved everything about my SHO, just the stupid AWD system was ultimately the deal breaker for the power and performance I wanted in a sports sedan.

I wanted something that would click off a 10 second quarter mile pass, could possibly run 200 mph, and that I could drive across country with comfort and reliability, and I have paid dearly.....

To install a V8 in the Taurus, not only would you have to remake the transmission tunnel, You would have to lengthen the wheelbase by adding at least 6" in front of the A pillar. This would allow you to put the engine behind the front axle for better weight distribution. I think that is what they did when they raced the Taurus in NASCAR. They used a NASCAR spec chassis, then lengthened the front sheet metal, among other modifications.

I could see doing that for a track build, someone did a 5.0 swap in a fusion for a purpose built drift car, but I'd leave the 5.0 hanging over the axle as much as needed to keep some of the interior intact. A new trans tunnel will already eat up most of the electronics behind the console but I think with enough creativity a lot of it can be relocated. Honestly until I had a stripped taurus and a coyote in the same room I couldn't be sure what would need to be done. But I know the Mustang is a shorter wheelbase with a slightly longer front end that I think it would balance out.

Not a Taurus, but...this is a great front to rear drive conversion to a 2017 continental use s650 front / rear subframes

This is a build I've been following, for what ever reason it never clicked to do a 5.0 swap until someone mentioned it on fb. I referenced this same build when they asked if it was possible lol. Falling in love with the idea, any one know how to make a go fund me?

I'd say it would be great to go ahead and kit out a large warehouse to work on 2 or 3 SEL frames at a time, and set up a nice production line. I'd buy one

At this point it'd probably be easier to import a Ford Falcon from the land down under and slap SHO badges on it. I think we all hoped for some V8 Super Super High Output. Lol
A lhd falcon would be perfect
