im in the midst of my tranny swap rite now and had a couple of quick questions considerin im doin it myself and its a first for me.
1. well i broke all the bolts from the y-pipe to the mainfolds, what would be my best bet in this situation?
2. i should resurface the flywhell correct?
3.i dont have ne air tools, will the skin on my knuckles ever grow back?
4. how can i tell if i need a knew clutch?, i will try to post pictures but dont really have access to a digi cam.
5. if any body can give me some tips, ne lil info that might help i would appreciate it much.

thanks and by the way its a 94 mtx, im just about to drop the old trans got a hole in it the size of a baseball. but i have one waitin to go in.

1. I dunno the best way
2.Yes
3.Even know i have them you don't need air tools to do this. But it always helps and yes they will grow back
4.Was you clutch slipping before?? If so I would do one. Or if you have the money I would do one sence you are right there
5.If you didn't do it already get a new Throw out bearing and install that. I am doing the same thing right now. My trans blew up and I am installing a new one. When you put in the trans take your time and get some friends to help... Make sure you get the input shaft in correctly and then put 1 or 2 of the top bolts in the trans, and that will pull it all together. DON'T FORCE ANYTHING!! Then from there it is bassiclly bolting everthing back on. The hard part is done. Oh and make sure you put the subframe in before you put the shifter in.

Hope that helps

Always resurface the flywheel during a clutch job.

With that said, unless the clutch was JUST replaced before you got the car, it seems stupid to go thru all the labor to replace the tranny while reusing a half-used clutch.

Id throw a new clutch in there. Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate, Throw-out bearing.
And get the flywheel resurfaced.

Cost? Check out MidwestSHO.com for clutch pricing. I like the looks of their stage 1 kit. Nothing really fancy, but it is a beefed up stock clutch.

Typical flywheel resurfacing costs about $40
