I was wondering. When I go into fith gear I have to constantly keep trying to put it into gear with some grinding. No I'm not ramming it into gear let in, it grinds, I take out and I keep doing that until it engages, could it be that I need my motor mounts replaced cause the tranny's not properly lined up? I had my clutch put in and b4 I did that it was shifting into fifth perfectly. So after that job that's when I start having those symptoms.

well i wouldnt say mount personally. Have you check your trans fluid lately? if you are low that could be a cause. how many miles on your car? its kind of weird to hear that you are having a problem with 5th. maybe your 5th syncronizer is dead, but if it was you wouldnt be able to go into 5th when stopped...can you go into 5th when stopped? there are alot of factors involved but i would first start checking if it goes in smoothly when stopped if it doesnt expect a syncro. if it goes in without a probelm id change your fluid

After you replaced your clutch did you adjust the clutch pedal?

What ever you do, do NOT grind it ANYMORE or you will need to replace your blocking ring and synchro for 5th gear. That's if it just needs an adjustment or so. If that's not the problem, your blocking ring is just getting a little worn and needs to be replaced.

No I didn't adjust my clutch afterwards, I tried lately but it didn't need adjusting. Well I said motor mounts cause I saw someone asked almost the same question so that's what raised the querstion for me. And what kind of fluid should I use? How much am I looking at to change the syncro's?

Trans fluid recommended: Motorcraft Mercon (XT-2-QDX)

You need a blocking ring for 5th gear. When replacing that, you might as well replace all the gears blocking rings, www.shonutperformance.com has them. You shouldn't need a synchro unless you just sit there and keep grinding the gear away!

Well I did check to see if my car would grind, while idling, to fifth gear and no it didn't grind at all it went smoothly so that just means that I need change or add fluid?

fifth gear is pretty much useless anyways. If I were you I would take my time to make sure the shifter dropped in 5th positively before enguaging the clutch. Just as you should for every gear.

So does that mean I either change or add mtx fluid??
Well check it for sure, if you remove the fill plug you should be able to stick you're finger in there and get it wet. If not -you need to do something.

What kind of fluid do you have in there and how long has it been in there? I'd assume it's new, as you did a clutch job.

By the way, there IS a 5th gear synchronizer slo-sho. You might be confused with "reverse" as it does not have one. In most cases, when you begin experiencing shifting difficulties and grinding, it's your blocking rings, as it's the wear part item. Grinding is what does the damage to the synchro(s).

If the truth be known, 5th and reverse share the same shifting parts. If your 5th synchro gets messed up for whatever reason you can lose reverse as well as 5th. And before you call BS....I know this from first hand experience with my own trans ... and if you still don't believe it ask Josh at SHO NUT.

And for once, I agree 100% with TYSHO...there is a 5th synchro.

SHOstuff - do the simple things first. Check your fluid level. If that's ok, then check for anything that might be binding. Have someone help you by shifting the gears while you watch underneath. Once you rule out external causes, then worry about the inside. The blocking rings for 5th are all made out of brass so a certain degree of notchiness is to be expected. It sounds to me like perhaps your blocking ring has reached the end of it's life. It could be a synchro issue too, either way you have to open the tranny to replace both.
