Hi everyone.

Ever since I did my 120k i swear this car has decided it needs a new sensor for everything wink

I noticed that my temp guage even with a new thermostat only goes to A at most and usually @ L. I think that there are two coolant temp snsors, to the left and the right of the thermostat.

Which do I replace? or both? Also how much coolant is lost (cold engine) when pulling this/these sensor(s). I am suckign gas like mad due to the PCM dumping in too much fuel to warm up the engine! Getting 4775 km per tank (highway) if I am lucky! Thats like 15-17 mpg!

The computer only uses the front sensor (the one with two wires). The rear (single wire) sensor is used only for your dash guage.

Do not rely on the dash guage's relative postion in making a diagnosis. Either the sender or the guage or both may be causing inacurate temperature indications.

For troubleshooting, you should install an accurate aftermarket guage so that you can accurately determine the true temperature being seen at the water outlet housing.

Drain the radiator, loosen the upper hose, then replace either of the sensors. You will likely loose up to a quart of coolant when you take it apart, probably less.

You have this backwards. The rear(right of T-stat) is for the PCM. The front(left of T-stat) is for the gauge.

Ooops. Not enough coffee to engage my brain.

I stand corrected.

Damn, I wish I could get "only 4775 km" per tankfull!!!!! Must have lost something in the translation,,,Eh?? All kidding aside, the single pole temp sender goes to the dash gauge, and only to the dash gauge. Since it has a single wire, it needs to be gounded thru the threads. Clean threads and install with a minimum of sealant. The 2 pole sender goes to the computer, check for connection/corrosion. An open circuit,,hi-resistance,, tells the computer its cold. As the sensor heats up the resistance decreases. Both my SHOs have always run around the A or L when at speed. Perhaps as hi as the O while sitting in traffic on a hot summer day.

I noticed your from Canada. FYI I was at crappy tire playing with the parts look up computer and notice that you can actually get both senders there! The single pin gauge sender was just over $7. And the two pin PCM was like @30 or 31. Compared to the stealer at $68 cause I just got one two weeks ago.. Changing the sender for the PCM has helped my gas milage It seemed to be having a running rich condition also. Use a 1" deep socket to take that PCM sender out, very easy.
