coolant tank

When my coolant tank developed a crack, the dealer was highly unreasonable for a replacement. If memory seves me correct, the price was in excess of $60.00. A trip to a local junkyard coupled with five minutes of my time and $10.00 later, I had an exact replacement from a 24V Taurus. The dealers are crooks plain and simple.

I'm not a dealership homer, but how can you compare a new dealer part to a junkyard part? It is the same part, but still apples to oranges...

It stays pretty cool up here year round, compared to the lower US anyway. I wonder if that leads to a longer life expectancy before the tank gets cracks?

Mine isn't cracked (as far as I can see) but the sensor is faulty and trips the coolant light. I'll replace mine once the weather breaks.

A coolant tank isn't an item that one would need to buy new in order to receive a long and satisfactory life. We are not talking about a wheel bearing or anything along those lines that needs to be purchased brand new. The original tank lasted for 4 years while the junkyard tank has surpassed those four years and is going on five. That's how I compare the two parts and their respective prices. From an economical pov, it was much better spending $10 for 5 years of use as compared to $60.00.

I got one of the fleabay ones and the sensor quit after about 4 1/2 months of use.

Just a thought.

I purchased a tank from Tennessee Auto Sales and I will stand behind the quality of the tank. However, my sensor has decided to not play along anymore. I just emailed him asking to take advantage of the 1 year warranty that is offered. I will let you all know how that goes. It does say that S&H are not covered but new tank for $10 is fine by me.

I just unplugged the sensor...
