i have a coolant leak coming from somewhere above my oil pan (i think it's the oil pan - right in front of the atx case), seems like it's bad enough to give me a 4" diameter puddle in about two hours. any ideas where to start. i won't be able to get it up on ramps till tomorrow am. any advice would be appreciated.

thanks in advance. frown

It is probably due for a 60K service, if it hasn't already had it done. The water pump is probably the problem. If it is coming from the right side of the engine right below the serpentine belt, you need a water pump.

You need to check your heater hoses under the throttle body to the firewall.

I don't think it's the waterpump. when my waterpump leaked, there was no puddle. It would leak onto the CPS causing my car to shut down once in a while and then onto the cats or some other part of the exhaust and burn off leaving no sign. I replaced the crank sensor, waterpump, timing belt, accessory belts etc etc. I was dumb and didn't do the front main seal or lower radiator hose. I'd check your hoses first. they're probably the cheapest route.

thanks for the replys,

i've had some time this morning and i've been trying to find a leak. can't find anything that looks like a leak down in the area of the water pump. i did look briefly near the TB because i had been working in there a couple months ago to clean the nostrils, so that's where i went first. nothing jumped out at me though. but i'll do a little deeper inspection.

i did however, run the car for about half an hour and nothing. i didn't drive the car at all yesterday, thats when i noticed the puddle of coolant. so i looked around quickly (on my way out to a party), rinsed the driveway down with the hose, and left. came home about four hours later and the puddle's back, and i still hadn't started the car at this point (since midnight friday). so i turn it around in the driveway (it's a slight (2% or so) incline) and park it for the night. as soon as i park it, 3 or 4 more drips. so i go to bed thinking i'm in for it this am. and only the original three or four drips are there, and now there doesn't seem to be "fresh" coolant anywhere.

any other suggestions?
i'll post back i'm going to check near the TB like Scott said. thanks.

Also, check your hoses, I'm not quite sure were you mean the leak is coming from but it may be your upper or lower radiator hoses. or even the smaller coolant hoses by the TB like scott said. Good luck!

Are you sure it isn't just water from the AC mixed with a little coolant? That is what happened to me, I replaced the water pump and no more coolant leak.
