Denso O2 sensors are excellent, I run them in my car. Did you clean your MAF sensor? Are the clamps on the induction tubing from air filter to throttle body tight?

Yes, to both. The idle likes to jump between 500 and 900 initially. I believe I have an intake leak for two reasons:

1. I can hear a whistle when I start up the car.

2. After that goes away the idle isn't quite so jumpy.

I ordered new couplers and the intake gasket set.

Copper plugs are fine, you just need to change them 4x as often as double platinums.

If you want help, you will need to answer our questions:

The fact that they are carboned up suggests rich mixture, oil consumption problem, poor spark, or similar problems. I would look at all 6 - what do each of them look like?

Are you having poor gas mileage? or significant oil consumption? If not, the new wires would be suspect to me.

Still waiting for an answer to these questions..............

I looked at the front 3 so far. I am going to pull the intake over the weekend to look at the rest. The tip of the plug is a tan/orange color and the rest of the plug has carbon on it. I thought they looked worse than they actually are originally.

I get good gas mileage. I haven't driven the car enough to notice significant oil consumption.

Did you keep any of your old parts (plugs, wires, etc...)? They might come in handy for diagnosing this problem, assuming they're still OK.

The old plugs and wires were trashed. Probably original.

I will put new plugs in when I pull off the intake. The wires are new and should be good.

I rented a compression tester from Autozone. Didn't get my intake off yet. Still waiting for the hose couplers, however, I ran the goose test today during KOER test and it came back with a code 30. Is that the rear drivers side plug?

The "steam" from the exhaust must be because of unburned fuel from the weak cylinder? I'm assuming this is why the rear converter is 150 degrees hotter than the other.

I have excessive blow by that comes out of the oil filler cap and dipstick tube.

I found a rubber hose hanging down by my driver's side splash guard. I am going to pull off the splash guard tomorrow. And clue to where this goes?

I've lost 2 qts of oil in the past 650 miles. A good portion is probably from drip.....drip.....drip under the car.

If you have 'excessive blow by that comes out of the oil filler cap and dipstick tube' then you have stuck rings, which will result in excessive oil consumption. A quart in 500 miles is not at all unusual in that situation.

Sometimes a treatment like AutoRx will un-stick the rings enough to make the engine operate reasonably well and sometimes the engine must be disassembled to remove the rings and clean up all the crap that is stuck in the ring grooves and oil flow holes in the pistons. Of course, I would recommend the AutoRx idea first, since its a $20 option rather than a $1000+ option.

Good luck.

I have a bottle sitting in my garage. I'll put it in during the next oil change.
