cold running SHO?

does this qualify for a cold running sho hwne i start my 90 mtx up the temp guage is at all the way to the bottom in the blue and about 10-15 minutes of driving it begins to climb but i still have heat, is there a way to fix that or is that just a sensor problem

You might have a t-stat that is stuck open. This happened to mine a few years back and during the winter the temp gauge never moved past top of cold. I still had heat, just not very hot. Replaced it but gauge still takes a long time (5 min)to reach operating temps. I'm interested in seeing other posts on this topic. Seems like the newer cars reach operating temps much much quicker. My wifes Infiniti will reach its temp before we go 1/4 mile. What causes this in the newer cars?

Just like mine. I need a t-stat. Heat comes on, but not hot like it should be. Most of the time that's ok with me cause I like it cooler anyhow, but on 7° days it really sucks. In any case it's a relatively simple fix. Just make sure your autoparts store gives you the correct t-stat.

And don't forget it makes your SHO run in the warm up mode all the time. Bad for the cats and poor fuel economy.

I really gotta get that fixed fast. That's probably the biggest reason my fuel economy sucks. I don't suppose it could have anything to do with how I drive could it??

Is it bad for the temp gauge to be that low all the time? Like on mine, the gauge is below the "l" in normal all the time unless i'm sitting in traffic, but once I start moving, it lowers back to under the "l". My fuel economy is still around 21 mpg, but I'm also running rich and have a bad ACT.

I don't know that it would be bad for the engine or not but Shoman94 says it's bad on the cats. My car doesn't seem to have any other problems caused by it, other than the lowered gas economy and the lack of nice warm air on really cold days. I'd say you'd be in really bad shape though if it were stuck shut which would cause overheating of the engine. That's the real killer.
