Took my new CAI out for a little test today... whhoooosh. lol... at one point I swear I heard it whistle a little. Par for the course?

I went for the poor mans mod last month and removed the "snorkel" from the stock air box and I can easily hear the turbos now!

Correct...and of those 99.9% of people, 100% of them wouldn't throw down money on something unseen.

That is of course, if they had common sense.

Bought an Airaid intake primarily because of the price. It was on sale at http://4wheelonline.com before. I noticed a bit of difference in sound and response. Not much in performance. To me, in order to maximize the capabilities of an aftermarket intake, you need to do other mods such as better exhaust, downpipes and a tune. They do work together to get noticeable hp gain.

No, I have done that as well... But there is a snorkel looking piece in the air box that I removed completely.
Not sure this will have any positive effect, because now you are sucking air from the engine bay directly. I pulled mine off at the track. Made no difference

Correct, I would agree it does nothing for performance... But hearing the turbos spool louder is good enough for me. And a HUGE weight reduction of about 12oz.;)

Why is that part on our cars in the first place?
More turbo sound from removing and capping?

Why is there an air intake on your car? There has to be an efficient and uniformed way to introduce air into the intake manifold.
I thought he was discussing the cone shaped "noise maker" piece...maybe I was reading the thread wrong

Fuel needs oxygen to burn... So all engines need oxygen, and get it from air. However, opening the engine to the environment Willy Nilly is a terrible idea fraught with danger to the engine internals, so the air supply gets filtered. I believe a CAI affords 2 improvements over the stock air filtration system: A higher flow of air, and ideally, colder air, which is more dense, so also equates to more air at once. More air means more oxygen which means you burn more fuel to keep the air/fuel mix in proper balance. Therefore, more air = more fuel = MORE POWER.

And we like more power. More power is good.

He was referring to the snorkel piece coming off the air box and aimed at the fender, a popular location to draw cold air. It is more effective for cold air though when a flexible pipe is run from the snorkel to an opening in the front air dam.
