If you modify the strut housing (very simple to do), you can put your spring perch a lot lower, and with an 8" spring you can drop your SHO extremely low. If you are intent on using the stock dampers, be careful when grinding off the stock spring perch, as you will not want to heat up the contents (so no torch!). I recommed some Koni's though, revalved for the correct spring rate. This way, not only will you achieve the drop you want, but your car will handle very well. FWIW, my coilovers have the Koni's revalved for 700F/600R springs, and the ride is superior to the IPT coilovers I had years ago (450R/350R spring, stock Koni's).

i was gonna grind off my perch, but when i had to cut my sleeves up, i didnt. cuz im not that sketch.

im thinking off fitted mk4 gti fronts in all the way around.

ive been in a car with i believe the spring rate that comes with the standard kit and if you ran over a dime you knew if it was heads or tails up.

It's really hard to say. The strut, suspension travel, etc play a major factor.

My STi came with some aftermarket springs (Cobb) that were rated in the 250+ in/lbs range and rode like absolute crap compared to my coilovers which are over twice as stiff. The old springs would literally jar the car like my dash was going to pop out at me. I could stand that for all of a couple thousand miles and the KW coilovers were purchased. The KW coilovers in the STi ride just as nice as the Intrax/Koni on my SHO.

ill just get springs and cut them a ton, as seeing nobody has input

You have variable geometry on the springs so you can only cut a coil or 2 before you wont fit on the spring perch or mount.

You could go with Intrax or B&G Springs cut a coil or 2 and then combine it with the strut tab mod.

The question is though how low do you want to go?

Have you looked into bags?

Starts at 3" lower than stock and goes down from there.

Slightly off-topic, but the kSports I had on the LGT came with springs rated 7000/9000 (part of a group buy). Very stiff for MI roads. In checking their site for softer springs, they are all rated in the thousands (6000, 8000, etc). They don't show anything like inch/lbs, so it has to be a different measurement.

Obviously a different measure, but I wondered if there was ANY corelation to the "usual" (to me, anyway) ratings like 250, 350, etc.

He obviously wants everybody else to do the work for him. But when he gets an answer he doesn't like he ignores it. This is a very informative thread. If he can't find the answer he isn't reading.

Now the thread can go on...

Based off of what came out of ShoAmo's suspension setup I'm liking it. Besides the million pound springs in the front (600lb I think) lol. I think I'm going to just run the stock strut housing's with Koni's and the Eibach ground control kit on Monroe strut mounts. Considering my car is an ATX I'm definitely going for a stiffer rated spring in the front than say an MTX of course.

speaking of i gotta ask did anyone ever figure a way to make the coil overs ride half way nice?
does the gen 3 subframe make it any smoother?

To be honest, from the rides in ShoAmo's car with stiff springs and ground control coilovers on a GEN 3 subframe, my car rides more 'harsh' with koni's and cut eibach's and solid motor mounts on a GEN 3 subframe. So the answer would be that I believe the GEN 3 subframe helps regardless and the coilovers CAN ride nice for the most part. Our roads are pretty terrible around here so we get used to it being a bumpy ride to say the least.
