im installing a new clutch and mulling over what to get. i ran a search and there seems to be a lot of mixed opinons. Im not really running any performance parts, maybe a new y pipe in the future. Im thinking about going with the reagular oem and down the line if i wanna keep the car ill put in a quife and a better clutch. any opinions on oem clutches?

Stock clutches?

used to like them.

Now I hate 'em.

Drive moderately hard and you either break a strap on the PP, or in my case, eject a hub spring on the disc.

Heavy duty PP and aftermarket discs for me from now on.
I just installed the 9-puck fibertuff disc that is seen in my sig pic. So far it is super smooth, light pedal, and supposedly will hold a heck of a lot of power. Only drawback? A bit noise when engaged due to the all steel construction of the disc.. "rattle rattle"

DO NOT get a HiRevs Jr, if they are even still available. I'm doing my darndest to burn mine up ASAP, and then I'll get one of those Fibertuff 9-puckers. Most people that have them really seem to like them. I can live with another rattle, what's one more instrument in the symphony? :)

well the thing is im not sure if im keeping the car. either way, im fixxing it. i might decide i wanna sell it, or i love it and wanna invest in it. if i keep it im gonna end up doing a complete transmission rebuild and what not, so i dont feel like investing a lot of a money into a clutch at the moment. im just wondering how long i should expect the stock to last me with moderate driving.

With moderate driving it could last you as much as 100k or more. The Valeo disk is what came stock on the SHO and I know of quite a few people who've gotten over 100k out of them, I think the average is around 60-80k depending on your driving habits.

I had gone from the Fibertuff 9 puck disk that Kenny now has. I loved it at first, the grab it had was tremendous pretty much until the end, but after time went by the rattle got worse and worse to the point where it was embarrassing when sitting at a light in traffic. I'll never own another one of those ever. I now have a stock Valeo disk (not a refurb unit...don't ever buy a refurb) and I'm in heaven again. Nice light pedal, smooth engagement and enough grab to make me happy. And that's all that counts....what makes me happy.

I have a Southbend DXD. I wouldn't recomend it unless you want it to be grabby. It's great for the track and great for hard driving. But, it is absolutely annoying (and stinky) in traffic. During normal driving, my only complaint would be the heavy peddal.

Go with a Clutchmasters Stage 1. That way you're getting a quality clutch with minimal cost and no nasty side effects that performance clutches have.
