Just got a digital camera, so I figure I'll share what happens when your pressure plate bolts don't have locktite put on them. (mechanic who installed clutch before i bought the car did it)
That clutch had less than 1000 miles on it ;)

note the broken PP straps, they're what killed my tranny.

I was on an ice patch when it happened. 5th gear, 90mph on the speedo, actually going 0mph. Before you think im some kind of mindless idiot (or to confirm that I AM a mindless idiot :p ), I had just woken up from being knocked out by a "friend" for messing with his ex girl, and I was intoxicated at the time. I was joking around. She knew it. He didn't. One good hit to the side of the jaw (i wasn't looking) and I went down. Out cold literally. I laid unconcious in the snow for 30 minutes. When I awoke, I wanted to get out of there fast, and that happened.

I let it idle after that for about 30 more minutes waiting for the tow truck, and another half hour afew months later to have power steering when pushing it up my driveway. I thought it was the diff pin since instantly there was trans fluid on the ground. Turns out the straps wore through the aluminum case.

Alcohol+girls+jealous ex's+improper clutch install= the pics you just saw, and some hospital bills. :frown:

She's a stripper now. :naughty:

Do you get a discounted rate at her club?? :naughty:

I have a couple of lady-friends that make incredibly good money working their 'stuff' at a local club and I get in for half price

Is it essential to put locktite on the pressure plate bolts? or can you get away without it?

Not essential, just recommended. I think there was a service bulletin recommending loctiting the PP bolts.

This posting makes me miss the old notation we used to have for age. There's a group of older SHO owners (me included) here that remember when the cars were new, were mostly late 40's and 50's. Then there's the younger generation that are getting into these great cars for little money. The younger generation has a little different lifestyle than us old guys; the old crowd is mostly just working, raising kids and paying the mortgage. zzzzz

TRSCobra, you sound like you belong to the younger group.

What do you mean little money? This car's cost me $7,000 so far and I've only had it 8 months! I'm definately in the younger group, although I stopped living that lifestyle when I started modding my SHO!
I work 2 jobs plus the Army reserve, and about 90% of my total income goes to my automotive hobby (insurance, car payments, gas, modifications)

We all make mistakes in life. They knock us off of our pedestal when we feel invincible, and reassure us that we're still human. Some people learn from these mistakes, others don't. I learned alot from that mistake. :)
