On my way to work this morning I heard a clunking or metal to metal as I engage the clutch in 1st gear. The noise is coming from right below the pedals. I was in stop and go traffic and ONLY happedned in 1st gear. 2nd ,3rd and 4th was not a problem. Seems to happen at low speeds.
I will take it out during lunch to see if I could pinpoint it more. But for now any suggestions on what it could be?
TIA

Is this when you depress the clutch pedal to go into first gear, or when you start to move from a stop?
I only ask because I had a loud clunk coming from right under my feet in first gear when I started moving from a stop. If I slipped the clutch a bit or started very gingerly, it would not be evident. It was only on normal to hard accelerating, and only in first gear.
I thought suspension, clutch, tranny, I've heard about the subframe not being properly secured......ugh....

Turned out it was simply my exhaust clanging around. Not sure exactly what part but since I replaced the Y-Pipe and cat-back exhaust it has never happened. Josh (from Sho Nut) really made sure the whole exhaust system wasn't too close to anything, and it has not happened since.
Hope you get it figured out soon. I recall what a pain in the butt it was and how concerned I was that it was something very serious, when indeed it was not.

It happened when I was at a stop and engaging the clutch to move forward in traffic( so yes, moving forward). I took it for a spin during lunch and did NOT hear the noise again. However, I am still concerned about the noise.
I'm going to get under her tonight and see if I see anything that might be causing the problem. I will check the y-pipe as well. Thanks for the heads up Mike.
