Alright, I have a clearance issue here I was wondering what would cause it, and how to resolve it

the car in question is my friends 1990 SHO, he has a major clearance issue between the DIS module and the engine strut bracket on the strut tower

there is a major clearance issue on his car.

what would be causing that, a broken rear mount, or is the subframe shifted too far to the one side? I would be working on this car and figuring it out myself, but he lives 3 hours away, and I have no time to take off to help him out myself, so all help is gratefully appreciated

Thanks Tom

Im almost positive its a broken motor mount, but its easy enough to check subframe alignment so you might as well go ahead take look at it. About 2 inches or so back from the front subframe bushings you will see a hole and through it you can see a hole in the frame of the car. These "alignment" holes should line up, center to center. To adjust simply loosen up each subframe bushing and use a 3/8" or so sized rod to lever the subframe back into alignment.

Not just a broken mount, but a failed, deteriorated rear mount that is missing a great deal of its rubber isolator.

I would also say that there is either a major oil leak at the rear cam seal or the power steering pump is leaking.

Alright, thanks for the help, waht we figured out, is that the right rear subframe bolt nut rusted through, (going to be doing the recall kit), the crappy thing is in the recall it doesn't list Alberta as a province that needs it, well, it does,

so that is where we are sitting at, the recall kit is $30 retail, so that's going to be done real soon

Is it possible to still get the recall work done by Ford? I don't think mine have ever been done. Where can I find out if my area is on the recall list.

Tom,
That DIS module looks just like mine did (wire ties and everything)! Ignition eventually started missing--even with the classy wire tie fix. Mine was caused by bad rear subframe mounts...the fronts were fine. I live in Virginia (not much salt), and the bolts weren't rusty; the mounts had just deteriorated. Motor mounts were fine. Replacing all 4 subframe mounts with solid aluminum ones fixed the clearance problem between the steady rod bracket & DIS module.

Unfortunately, I had just bought two(!) subframe recall kits from the Ford dealer; I didn't use either since there was no rust. If you need one, I'll sell you a kit (does both rears) for $10 plus actual shipping (I think I paid $20+ each). Kit includes new bolts, too.
