Please proof read, you will get more responses wink

Whether or not you think it is right, thats how it is. Also, do a search on "chips" and "LPM".

You will get a better gain and have a chip tuned for your exact car from Ted Breaux. And he offers lifetime free reprogramming. And, its only $200 shipped with a 30-day money back guarantee.

I assume we're talking about a GEN3? I don't think any chip will give your much more than 5 hp on the V8. It will make shifting better and eliminate the TC lock/unlock cycle. I have had good luck with Ford Chip/Apten chip. Others haven't but usually because of clandestine dealer chip flashing.

The dealer will "upgrade" or re-flash you PCM if you take it in for any warranty work. This is done without your knowledge and is because of certain issues addressed in Ford TSBs. Usually this is for emissions reasons and will not affect the performance of the car. The problem is they do not document the new PCM code. So when you send off your code to someone that will make a chip for you, they have the wrong programming logic and it will cause problems.

Thank you, Paul, that is very useful information. I take it that you avoid this when going in for warranty work either by switching out the custom chip first or by working it out ahead of time with the dealership? Or are you past the warranty work from Ford stage, so it just no longer applies? Considering the troubles that so many SHO owners have had with custom chips, anything you can tell us about avoiding such problems would be of great use to the Gen III community in general.

I went to www.Fordchip.com. Told them all my mods and computer model number and they sent me a chip. I loved it. Shifts were outrageous. Carter recommended me to them. No complaints here. There is an F1 and F2 for stock applications and there is an F3 and F4 for nitrous and blowers.

I have the Apten chip and I love it. I had some issues with poor contact between the chip and the PCM. This was mostly b/c I have the "stock switch" on it, and the cable was putting pressure on the chip when I installed the PCM back into the socket. I taped a small hex nut to the back of the PCM box as a spacer and I haven't had any problems since. At any rate, Apten now uses Superchip blanks instead of Diablos, and the new ones don't look like they'd give you the same problem I had.

A18 months ago I got a Ford Chip. It was great out of the box. A year ago i had 3.99 gears put in for the final drive and went with the Apten chip. Again no problems for that perspective. I did have problems with the TCC solenoid gong bad but that has been fixed.

I did not have the chip when going to the dealer for warranty work. If I did have a chip I would tell them not to re-flash the PCM. Having a chip will not void your warranty unless it fries the PCM. And this would more than likely be an install issue.
