When installing the larger retaining bolt on the outside of the case I chipped the lip on the fork. About 1/16 inch wide and a little less deep. I removed the chip. Could this be a problem?
Thanks

Pics would help. Some will say replace it no matter what, but I don't subscribe to that. Show us the damage.

Seems to shit fine on the bench. I'm not going to worry enough about it to crack open my old tranny to get a perfect one. Don't think I could get a good pic without opening the case again. Really is a small chip and the bolt seems to have plenty of slot surface to function as it should.

Hmm, that's not good ;)

The only thing you can really do is put it back together, and put it in the car to see if it works. If it's shifting fine on the bench it'll probably be okay.

Do you mean you put a small chip in the slot on the shift fork interlock sleeve?

This is common, I've seen this on many of the MTX's I've worked on, it happens when the slot in the sleeve isn't perfectly centered on the bore for the shift fork interlock retaining bolt. As long as the slot is clean and doesn't drag on the interlock pin, it's fine.

Yep that be her, the interlock sleeve. Had to get the book out to look up proper part name. Thanks. And that is just what happened. I thought I was just getting resistance from the teflon tape. Sure didn't feel like more than 10lbs of torque before it chipped.
