I'm looking for more info on the Buick Regal STB's that was originally posted in the old forum under: http://www.shoforum.com/ubb/Forum21/HTML/000031.html

Anyone have an idea what year, make, model, engine to look for from gmpartsdirect.com? Or, does anyone have a part number for these? The website wasn't too helpful in searching for this part.

Thanks,

Forget it. After some web-searching (GP sites of course) I found Buick Regal OEM front shock tower bar p/n 12456148, (GM refers to it as an 'bar kit'). $7.69 through gmpartsdirect.com.

The Web site said $12 from the dealer but I called my local Buick dealer and they had the part for $19 bucks. If you order it from GM parts direct remember that you have to pay the minimum $10 shipping and handling fee, that makes it almost as much as the dealer anyway. $10 shipping on a $7 part is too much.

I ordered mine from gmpartsnetwork.com... $25 shipped for a set.

This is going to be the cheapest mod I've ever done to my car and probably the most effective from what I've read.

Mine should be arriving for next weekend's install.

Hey guys,
i was wondering if you could tell me what the STB's do? Is it that big of an improvement? How hard is the installation? I have had SFC and aluminum SFB installed recently, is this something else that i should tack on?
Thanks,
Joe

The strut tower braces basically keep the strut towers from changing geometry by bracing one aginst the other. If you have subframe bushings and subframe connectors, this is the next logical step.. your chassis has less flex in it with the SFC's but the STB will keep your camber straight in hard turns.

Well, you get what you pay for. They are stamped/formed metal braces as opposed to the solid bars that the SHO Shop sells. But, the Buick STB's do work well from what I've read here and from what the GTP guys say.

I'd just like to know if they'll fit my '96 before I go out and buy one. Can anyone with a Gen I/II take a measurement from tower to tower for me?

Yeah... for $25 shipped for a pair of them, I'm not expecting miracles or walking (driving?) on water... they aren't adjustable, they COULD flex under cornering load and not be as effective as purpose-built braces, but who cares? I'm spending $18 instead of $290 for front and rear braces...
