I bought a 1991 plus last fall. It had 147k km on the car, new clutch and timming belt. It needed a new windshield and some minor work to the glass hood. I pick it up for $1200 cnd.
The only problem that i have faced so far is when its hot outside the trunk pops. I was just wondering if anyone has come across this problem before or have heard of it. I would really like to find out why so I can fix it.

thanks

Just a guess here but it sounds like the actuator is malfunctioning. I think there is one on the trunk that will activate at the keypad. Sort of like the power locks. First time I've heard of it opening instead of not working at all. You should be able to find one in a salvage yard or you could try alfitz.com. He usually has a few parts sho's laying around.
Oh and that recommendation is only after checking that the latch and the cable from the release lever in the cabin are in good order. Maybe a kinked cable also?

Kevin, I had the same problem on my '91 last summer in real hot weather. I replaced the trunk latch, but that didn't solve the problem. I found out the release cable itself was actually pulling (just barely) on the release lever of the trunk latch mechanism. Then, when I would hit a bump, it would pop the trunk open. For a temporary fix, I just disconnected the release cable from the latch, & BINGO, no more trunk popping problems. thumbs_u Unfortunately, then the only way to open the trunk is with the key. :( I sold the car before I got a chance to research what might have been wrong with the cable, so that's all the help I've got for you, hope it works for you!
