@$%^&*#! CD player!!

So I'm driving back to Iowa State listening to my iPod through a tape adapter and all of a sudden my CD player (stock SHO unit) thinks theres a CD in it. My pink floyd is cut off by the CD player trying to locate the non-existent CD, and then after a second it finds nothing and my music is playing again.

Is this phenomenon caused by gummed up contacts in the CD player itself? How do I go about removing the CD player?

It's a common problem and easy thing to fix. There are small switches on the inside of the CD player that get corroded over time and need to be cleaned. Pop the top off of the CD player and reomve the small board on top. The bad switch is usually on that board.

Have a look here for instructions on how to clean out the contacts that detect a CD in the player. The player itself can be removed from the dash using either a coat hanger in each of the 4 corner holes in the unit, or using DIN tools that you can buy at Walmart (I'd suggest the DIN tools; I think they're only a few dollars).

Thanks for the quick replies! I'll be going to wal-mart this weekend and I'll tear that sucker out and clean it well

Don't you hate when that happens. My 8 track tape player does that every time I play Gary Pucket and the Union Gap's "Young Girl". rangerj
