Hi everyone, I bought a 1993 atx a couple months ago and don't really know that much about them electronically. Anyways, I would like to buy a 6 CD changer to put in the trunk like a kenwood, but I don't know if it is compatible or not. I would really appreciate any input anyone can give me on this. If a kenwood 6 CD changer would work, what would I have to do to install it? Thanks again for your time!

Well first off, Welcome!:) To answer your question as best i can, i would say scrap the CD changer. It's pretty old stuff already. (like before the ipod got big) I would say, just buy a nice quality Headunit/CD player from best buy, or some where of the sorts. (if you have a local sound shop that'd probably be better) Maybe even look into a flipout screen or something??

I say this b/c you can get the adaptor for roughly $50 (depending on how small you want it to be) for your ipod, and play Thousands of songs, without the hassle of messing with the CD's!:sun:

I've had my same Kenwood Headunit for over 7 years now, and never a problem with it. I've got the adaptor for my ipod, and voila!!, thousands of songs at my fingertips!!! (plus you won't wear out the internals of the CD player..)

If you do decide to install the disc changer, i know that they are quite a bit of extra work, and unless you know someone who is really 'tech' savy, you're probably looking at more doh than you want to spend.

Good point.

I have a CD player that plays MP3s and WMA files. I just put them on a CD and I can fit about 150 songs on one CD. That might be an option too.

point 1) to use an aftermarket unit in your car AND retain the premium sound amplifiers (if you have PS) you will need an AMP Bypass to make it work.

point2) there are a few options you can do. lets look at some of them

1) standard Single DIN in factory slot.- this is the easiest and cheapest way to go. keep everything simple and few if any headaches. i would recommend against using a single DIN flip out screen in this location.

2) Double DIN in factory + tray- this requires some custom work. but a good option if you want a dvd/nav option. this option will making using the unit harder as it is farther from your line of sight.

3) Single DIN in EATC Location- this require more custom work. but IMHO looks and works the best. it should have been where the unit was stock. what this does is moves your climate controls to your radio location, and your radio to where the climate controls were. This location also offers the option to use a single din flip out unit.

Now as for units.
My suggestion is to buy something that not only has the MP3/WMA option, but something that will take an IPod/Zune.
Stick to quality brands. dont mess with that wal-mart off brand stuff.

good luck on your decision. and be sure to use the search engine to research a little more on adding aftermarket audio equipment to your SHO.
