I just joined the GenIII owner's world last week. Very pleased with my silver 98 with just 68K. However . . . the previous owner said the CD changer was replaced twice. Last time in Sept. 03. Well, after sucessfully playing it once to test it, it failed completely on my third day of ownership. bummer. I really don't want to shell out money on the cd player considering I'm going to drop $700 on the cam welds within the next month.

I did a search on cd changers on this forum, but didn't get a clear picture as what to do or how much replacing costs. Basically the cd cartridge won't eject, and the display tells me there is no cd in. I have an Alpine 6 disc player that's been sitting in my closet for a couple years, can I just have someone install it in the same spot as the factory one? How much would that run? Will any old cd system hook up to the factory controls? Please help!

Mine did that too :bonk: I unplugged the harness and removed it. After inspecting it for anything that might be jamming the eject mechanism. Found nothing, put it in, and like magic it WORKED! I was like  then  .

I GUESS that it is something loose in the wiring harness or some loose electronics in the changer that got shook around and reconnected.

if you want i have one from my 1999 i'll throw your way. I had this problem on my friends 02 cheeroke limited. I took the entire unit out took off the casing and plugged it back in the tray rollers were a little dirty so i helped nudge them along while i hit eject. if it didnt work i unplugged it then plugged it back in and tried again. It eventually worked, .....cough cough after hitting it twice cough cough.... but most likely i would have to say it is a malfunction and can be easily fixed by removing it tapping it a bunch from all different sides and plugging it back in. then air dust it and make sure it has grease where grease needs to be. hope that helps

:thumb: Thanks y'all, that's a relief to know. Hopefully that's the problem. JSil, I appreciate the offer. I'm gonna see if I can get it to work, if not, I may take you up on it. I'm no fix-it whiz, but y'all made it sound easy. Unplug, and pound :) . Well, okay, I'll be gentle.
