in regards to the carbon buildup problem, does driving habits, [too many short runs] seem to have an effect. would running a can of berrymans spray through at each oil change help prevent? are some oils [high degree of aeromatics] adding to the cause?

read the other post before starting this topic. you can crack open the butterflys at idle by removing engine cover and then spray berrymans into the intake. [got a code for stuck open butterflys and this is how I cured it]. the catchcan solution is interesting but I am uneasy about lowering the thermostat temp. so much of the motor sensors are tied together. [toe bone connected to foot bone, foot bone connected to ankle bone and so on] not a good analogy but hope you get what I mean. keep coming up with ideas and maybe it will save a SHO or two, especially mine

I wouldn't spray too much Barrymans down into the intake....There have been a few V8 motors lost due to shops doing this trying to clean the intake!

Absolutely no problems with lowering the t-stat temp. I feel it is one of the best mods you can do to the V8. Really pays off with lower underhood temps.

As long as the V8 is over 120F it is in normal operating mode.

The driving habits do play a part in the carbon build up on the secondary side. When the car is driven easy, they don`t open, and carbon will build. This is also the cause of broken imrc`s.The secondary throttle plate will stick open or closed, pull on the cable, and snap it.More than anything, oil brand plays the largest part in carbon.Beleive it or not,the cleanest motors we`ve seen(Kirk is over 100,i`m around 30-40)ran Motorcraft, and Havoline, they looked cleaner than Mobil 1 and even Amsoil.
As for the Berrymans, spend the time and take the intake off to clean it,leave the heads alone. The Berrymans will wash out the bearings, like was said,it`s taken out a good amount of motors already by washing out the engine with it,it`s VERY strong stuff.
