can't pull codes

I had this issue before and it fixed itself for awhile. Girlfriend described a blinking SEL. While I can assume this is a missfire I would love to be able to pull a code. I've checked the fuse and its fine. The lighter works just fine if I'm remembering my manual correctly. I can pull them when the car feels like it. Id say I have a 30% chance of getting them.

Has anyone had this issue or know what it could be?

My silver 98 started that before I junked it. Couldnt pull codes or do monitor when it was running. Didnt check into it before I scrapped it. My new black one is fine.

As far as I can tell it's something under the hood. Was able to pull codes when I tore apart the intake and then couldn't after a couple heat cycles. Wiring was good so I'm stumped with it. Runs great though. Plugs looked great.

The cause of this ended up being the harness that sits behind/under the battery. Took that big plug apart and reseated it and haven't had the issue since.
