any canadians out here know how much a full 60k tune-up on an '89 would cost/how long it would take (at a Ford dealer or otherwise)? i'm 99.9% sure taking the SHO at least most of the way down to a BMW M5 run next weekend (on the 21st), and if the price is right for mr. student, and timing works, i'll try and get the SHO at least running a BIT better than it is now. (not sure the last time we had a complete tune up, even though we had a lot of work done on the front end (new steering rack, struts, springs ...)
also, do they look at the transmission/engine mounts in the 60k? having some grinding while shifting to second above 5k rpms

I would suggest contacting Josh @ SHONut Performance. He is Canadian and is located out of Ontario and helped me with all of my 60k needs.

When I did mine I replaced the waterpump, timing belt, upper gaskets, CPS, Front Main Seal, Plugs, and Wires. Total cost of parts was around $1,000cdn and labour with the help of a fellow Ontario SHO owner came in at around $400 or so.

You can find Josh's link on this website and let me know if you need anything else.

wow, i was crossing my fingers for somewhere more in the $400-500 region... (broke student cry ) we just had all of the belts replaced, new spark plugs and a few other things when we got the steering rack etc done (and that came to about $2700 inc labour), but wow. can't quite scrape together ~$1400 before going down.
but then, i guess price for parts is subject to what needs to be done/replaced on the car?
the only SHO-ish place to get work like that done here is the SVT specialized FORD dealer. i was in there yesterday, and they actually had a 97 in with 58k for $20,000

 Daryl or myself don't remember rejecting you. Your in now. Daryl approved you this morning. We meet most of the time in the Portland area, it is just matter who can host and when they can host. We have met as far North as Everett Washington, as far south as Salem Oregon, as far east as The Dalles Oregon.

Hey,

I live in Coquitlam (just up the road!) and have found that I get a great deal at Lordco Auto Parts by asking for a "BCIT student discount". They don't even ask for ID most of the time and you get 30% off list price! I did the 60K myself with the help of a friend and it was fairly easy. (89 MTX) Just take your time and you'll be OK. This forum will give you lots of help too! :)

I'm another Vancouverite. Recently I had my heads rebuilt in Squamish after a timing belt failure on the Sea to Sky highway-- that's an incident that I don't want to have to repeat, and got my 60k taken care of at the same time.

In Vancouver, a couple years ago I had some maintenance done at Coastal Ford (Main and 17th)-- the service managers there were very competent and seemed to know their way around SHOs (my confidence in them was bolstered by the 3 SHOs sitting in their service parking lot). They were good, but hella expensive.

Recently I've gotten some work done at TEJ Auto in East Van. Nothing SHO-specific, but they seem competent (and they have *not* ripped me off when they had the chance), and the shop has 4 SHO customers (according to the manager). $55/hr labour rate, cheapest prices on tires in the city (when I bought tires last December, the installed-and-balanced price they quoted me was about 30% cheaper than the next-lowest quote that I got). They gave me a calendar when I went there in December-- their address sits conveniently above my desk! TEJ Auto. 1832 Powell St, Vancouver. 604-254-6011. Open 7 days a week.

for the Vancouver area owners, would the local shops be able to order in the re-enforced motor mounts from SHOnut etc, or should i order those in myself and have them shipped to the shop?
i go to a place in Burnaby (Royal Oak and Impirial) called Compton Brothers. really good service, got performance car nuts working on the cars, and they're brutaly honest when it comes to charging you. if they mess up (big) in prices, they take full responability and give you your quoted price (did that for us when replacing struts and other front end gear when they mistakenly quoted regular taurus parts) they rely on repeat customers and positive word of mouth, so they're not out to rip people off.

and then there's also the Brown Brothers Ford on SE Marine, which has the SVT unit in there.... but i'm sure that they would be pretty expensive expensive.

Hey all you vancouverites...

Anyone interested in getting together for a meet? I live in the langley area and I would like to meet some of you guys sometime. I have now 2 SHO's and I am going to be doing some maintenance work on my cars soon. BTW, does anyone have the tappet holder and compressor tools around that I could borrow? Please call me or email me anytime at (604) 614-4984 or [email protected]

Thanks
