Ive been interested in maybe getting some cams in the near future. I have a basically stock 3.0. Ive got 3 options ive been looking at Tri-Flows, +10's, +20's. I want something that would still work in a daily driver and still get decent gas milage. And what kind of HP gains would I be expecting?

Thanks

+20 or triflows , the +10 are meant to be installed in a blown setup.

With some porting of the intake and BBBs (if you can , port the heads while you are at it) I would think you can reach 20 to 35 hp depending on how serious your mods are.

If you've never changed cam(s) in a car before, there's one thing to keep in mind. There will be a loss of low & some midrange torque as the power band is moved up the rpm scale. Not a problem in a RWD car where you can just change the gearing, but it matters more in a SHO with no lower gearing options.

Also keep in mind if you go with a more radical cam (stage 2's or +40's) the engine will become an interference engine, so don't mess up the timing or you will have a bad day;)

WIth a mostly stock vehicle, cams might be best further down the line as you will get more bang from other upgrades; i.e., catted y-pipe, suspension, brakes. You'll also want BBB's and a ported intake to go with cams to take advantage of the increased flow. WIth cams, you will also be needing a retune, so another $550 plus all the learning and proramming time for the Tweecer software. Adjustable cam sprockets would be best to make dialing them in easiest too. All in all, a lot of dough and labor time for a cam upgrade in these cars; suspension and brake upgrades would do much more for the driving experience overall.

A high flow Y pipe is the first MTX modification to do. That is if all your mantainance is up to par.

Unless you have an ATX, you can get 3.99s :woo-hoo:

You were one of the reasons I'm going N/A. and what's with this 3.99 final gearing?

IIRC you can get gears out of a SLO (3.99's) and put it in the sho to replace its (3.74's???) to get a little bit more get up and go for the fat atx's;)
