calling all sho members, help electrical short

Hello Sho members,
I was pullin some hard gees around a corner and pulled my shifter **** off my automatic. apparently the retainer clip had come loose and i pulled it right off goin around the corner while i was holding on to it for dear life. what a blast. anyway, i pounded it back on wrong in a hurry and somehow did something to it bad. the overdrive won't engage and the electronics in the dashboard quit ie: tachometer,fuel guage, temp guage also automatic head lights and auto door locks and brake lights. maybe some other things. i checked the fuses under the dashboard driverside and the power fuses under the hood driverside. all seem to be intact, so i figure this must be a short. i have heard of someone else selling a sho on craigslist with out brake lights and he couldn't figure out why they would not work. maybe they had a short also and this is a fairly common thing. i hope or that some one has some insight. or could throw out ideas to help me troubleshoot this.
please help!!!!!!

pull the console top off, unplug the OD switch and see if everything works again.

You cut the OD button wires in half when the slack you pulled either cut them or bunched up when you put the shift **** back on and the shaft cut them. They are extreamly thin wires and can easily be repaired/replaced. Remove the clip and shift **** and remove from shaft. Then you can pull the OD button out of the shift **** (just pull straight out on the OD button). Disconnect the wire(s) from under the console and soilder them back together (place some heat shrink on wires prior to soildering). reassemble and you'll be good to go.

hi guys and anyone else. it sure sounded sweet nice and easy not much work. but it looks like i have to hgunt it down the old fashioned way. just unpluging the O/D didn't do the trick. was pretty easy geeting into the center console. any other ideas sure would be appreciated. i'll recheck the fusses tomorrow. still looking for the easy way OUT.

What are you having a hard time with. Did you unplug the wires from the harness under the console. If not the exposed wires can continue to touch each other or anything metal and turn the O/D on and off at random. Also after you remove the OD button you will still need to pull the electrical part of the button out as well. Its inside the hole that the O/D button comes out of.

yes i unplugged the harness under the console. hoping all that stuff that quit working would again start working and it did not. brake lights and the dash and the automatic locks and headlights still are dead. i did not feel it was necessary that i did anything to the o/d switch on the shifter since the wiring had been completely removed from the shifter. but if you think it might help i will do that.

You have a blown fuse to cause the other stuff to stop working.
