Hello and New Years to everyone,

I just had the SHO brake caliper covers installed along with some small “mud flaps” yesterday. I like them, and maybe some of you are wondering about them and how they might look. So here you go.

Have a great 2019 everyone. If there are any SHO owners in Illinois that read this....SUPER BEARS! SUPER BOWL!

Lookin' good. Will be interested in any follow ups on those caliper covers if they come loose or not.

Give sources on both the covers, and the "mud flaps" ;)

I have the Ford mudflaps. They definitely made a difference on how dirty the side of the car gets while driving in the rain. I forgot where I bought mine, Tasca maybe?

I have a set of the Ford OEM ones in a box in the garage. Bought off of eBay. But I didn't like the "hollow" look of them, and wasn't sure what they'd look like installed, so I held off.

And now, gonna get a 2018 soon anyway, so they might go on that one ;)

I didn't love the look but they have grown on me some. Worth it keeping the car cleaner especially on a daily like mine is.

Thread derail, but I've often thought of filling in the hollowed-out portion somehow... might have to try that. Maybe a rubber sheet glued on and trimmed to fit.

I bought a pair of caliper covers as well. The rear covers didn't even cover my calipers. I was not happy with the quality and the IMO crappy design in how they secured to the caliper themselves. I was scared they were going to come loose while I drove down the freeway.

So serious question - the brakes on our car are already overtaxed. Do the caliper covers keep heat in the brakes, leading to fade issues?

I put those splash guards on mine, too. They seem to be helpful in protecting and keeping the sides clean. A couple words about them. I took my fronts off a couple weeks ago to clean behind them and they were chafing the paint on the very edge of the fender. I put two small strips of paint protection film on the painted part of the fender behind the splash guards. The vinyl can't be seen once the splash guards are in place.

I have friends that love the caliper covers and I've seen them on another local SHO. I was planning to paint my calipers black, but haven't done it yet. Glad to hear thoughts about the covers...

If you are heating your brakes to the point where it might be an issue- then it might be an issue. If you simply commute back and forth to work like a normal person drives, it won't matter.

I think of it in the reverse. They act as a heat sink. Pulling the heat to a larger surface directly in the airstream and help cool the brakes. At least that’s what I tell my self! I wasn’t happy that they didn’t match the picture on Amazon. I called the company and was told, “Oh we relaxed the requirements for our pictures.” If I were to press the issue they’d Be happy to make me what I wanted but at a $50 premium as a special order. Still when I took them off, it looked bare. They’ve been on for thousands of miles. A broad mix of driving conditions. No issues.

No. The covers are made of metal and will actually DISSIPATE heat like a heat sink. Remember, they aren't wrapping the entire caliper. They are simply placed on the face of the caliper.

I installed MGP caliper covers on my SHO over two months ago. They still look like new and are on nice and tight. No issues. I've driven about 5k miles so far. I get compliments on them all the time.

Oh...and as for the mud flaps, I just can't do it. I equate mud flaps with trucks, and cars that install rain guards on their windows. On a Subie? Sure...any rally style car, but not a performance sedan. I'd rather my car have some nasty dirt that can be washed off than a nasty mudflap that is there all the time. To each is own though...there are those that think the caliper covers look cheezy.

This is true. Because they are (cheesy).

Akin to playing dress up.

Want big brakes? Then purchase big brakes.

Slapping covers over OEM calipers to mimic a BBK, looks hokey.

I didn't want big brakes and I wasn't interested in mimicking BBK, Wilwood or Brembo. I simply wanted the brake calipers to look cleaner. I would have painted them, but that was more work and never lasts.

I find it interesting that you deem this cheesy and hokey, but the aftermarket explosion along with the decal extravaganza on your ride is tasteful?

I agree, to each their own. I find the factory splash guards helpful especially helping protect from stones and the like that are thrown by the tires. IMO, they're not objectionable or all that noticeable.

Caliper covers. Two friends have them on different cars and they like them. I saw them on an SHO locally, and it didn't work for me. In my eyes they look bulky. I plan to paint my existing calipers black.

Had the caliper covers on my 2001 Corvette, they’re well made and reliable.

Nah. It's cool. I was perhaps a tad harsh towards the OP.

I did find it funny though even he prefaced the cheesy-ness in his own post.

He and others are right. Each their own.

As far as my decals, they're called sponsors. Yes I have been blessed to have received product either severely discounted, or in some cases free.

The car draws attention to them, the products draw the attention of others to the car.

And if it weren't for the "aftermarket explosion" (of parts) as the OP says (pretty funny by the way, good jab back, haha) then I wouldn't have set the records I have, or achieved the achievements I have, or even garnered the notoriety of having been featured on TV/ on websites/ or in print, etc. that I have.

Multiple awards etc. solidify my point. Alas I digress. Anyhow........

Good luck to the OP. Those covers aren't bad, just not my cup of tea. Which is cool. Carry on good people.
