C-Clip for Overdrive

I read on shotimes.com about someone who was having problems where their ATX. Said they replaced the C-Clip and got 4th gear back , i was just wondering where one could purchase one of these C-Clips?

Got 4th gear back? Do you mean to say only your first 3 gears are working, or do you mean to say that you are unable to push the overdrive button to lock out the 4th gear (orange light in instrument cluster lights up). Please clarify, and perhaps someone will be able to help!

I wouldnt be that ignorant to my problem. Overdrive is not working, i know i can manually turn overdrive on and off. My car is only shifting through the first 3 gears.

I imagine your local Ford stealer, oh I mean dealer would be able to get one. It shouldn't cost but a few dollars, you're better off going there to buy one than trying to find one at a local parts store.

"4th" gear is actually a torque converter lock-up, so that you are running at a 1 to 1 ratio or "direct drive".

The torque converter is locked up by a solenoid in the valve body. The top of the solenoid sticks up through the trans, and is connected to the computer.

Check the connection at the solenoid for any corrosion, or an otherwise poor connection. This is a common cause of torque conver lock-up failure. rangerj
