I have heard that the build sheets were placed on top of the gas tank. and was wondering if anyone has found theirs or how long they last. I have thought about taking my tank down to see if after 350k it is still there

Nope don't last. I found one, but was it too brittle and broke up.

Not sure about '96, but when I dropped the tank on my '95 a number of years ago to install Walbro pump, I was surprised to find the build sheet lying loose in good shape on top of the tank.

Yes, that' about what happened to me. I found one on my '03 Mercury too.

When I dropped the tank on mine nothing stills there (2015 at around 135k) but with this location, it could depends on which conditions, weather or climate you have in your area... Here in Canada, 3 years and this paper doesn't exist any longer. Southern states SHO have more chance to keep them.

If I was living in Kansas, I will be curious to check...
