I've got a 92 that did the same thing. I just welded mine and have never had a problem since. It's not hard to get the shifter out. Just disconnect the shifter rod and stabilizer rod at the trans and then disconnect the shifter box from the 2 bolts at the back of the box. Note: when you put it back together make sure you pack the shifter box with some heavy wheel brg grease. Later.

Yep... just weld it....
thats what happened to mine before the spring run, (fordbastards spring run)
took the shifter out, welded the two back together, and she was better than before...

what i think what happens, is that after so many hard shifts, the shifter starts to bend, and bending metal back and fourth over time, well, it breaks....

easy fix, as long as you have acess to a welder.... or you might even be able to use JB weld.... but i wouldnt....

Thanks guys, Well, the only bad part was the car was sitting in a subway parking lot, so i had to work with what i had. I got the shifter and stabalizer bar off and took it to a local machine/weld shop. The guy wanted $5 to weld it, i slipped him $10 just for saving my butt  Put it all back in a hour or two! Feels much more solid than before!

Now i am still Indy bound! sweet!!
