I'm going to install SHOSource 12" Stage III front brakes on my '92. I've already cleaned up a pair of '94 Taurus spindles to replace the stock ones, and where I need some advice is on the anti-lock brake front sensors. Do I get a set of sensors for a '94?

Since I haven't seen any posts on the brake swap subject about incompatibility with the '92 or '93 ALB computers, can I assume that there is no obvious issue in going to the '94/'95 anti-lock sensors on a '92 (or a '93)?

Or not? ;)

good luck with that... the only ones I have ever had to change came out in pieces because they were rusted in.

plan to replace them.

I'm not very surprised that the sensors might be toast after all these years, my main question has to do with whether 94/95 sensors are required for the 94 spindles, or will '92 OEMs work/fit, even if I have to replace them.

Looking forward to much better braking, now I just have to decide between Hawk HPS or HP+ pads.

Thanks all!

When I did the brake upgrade on my '92, one sensor came out of the old spindle and was reused. The other was rusted solid, so I replaced that one. I'm reasonably sure the new sensor I bought was the one listed for the '92; it was identical to the old one. No problems to date.

they are the same and the ones from the 96+ will physically fit and work, but the wiring comes off at a 90 degree angle instead of straight. one does not need to worry about 92 v. 95 abs sensors, I think that has been said several times in this thread.

I don't find the Hawk HPS pads to be that great, they'd be fine for daily driving, but don't really bite that hard. HP+ if you don't mind noise and dust.

Project Completed

I finished the SHO Source Stage III 12" brake upgrade, so to complete what I found:

One of the ALB sensors was frozen in the old knuckle and had to be replaced. The second one loosened up after a couple of days of soaking in Penetrating Blast. I used anti-seize compound on both of the newly installed sensors. No problem fitting the '92 sensors in the '94 knuckles. Fired the car up, drove a few miles (starting new brake pad break-in process), no anti-lock brake codes.

I'll start another thread on the performance of the brakes after I've made some (real!) stops. They sure look impressive! The install included Russell SS brake flex lines (which I also have on the rear). I went with Hawk HPS, may try HP+ later; the pads are real easy to change with the PBR calipers, just take an e-clip off of a pin, and then pull the pin and the caliper and pads lift up and away from the bracket and the rotor. Lots of heat sink in these rotors!

Many thanks for all of the tips!

My experience is similar; the "cold bite" of HPS is especially low . Bite improves as the brakes heat up though.

I would not want the rotor wear, nor the dust for the street, and HP+ may take even longer to come up to temp..
