Today I replaced both rear brake hoses, and put in the bias plugs. After putting everything together and bleeding I have a bad leak. The leak apears to be between the copper washer and the caliper.(Its hard to tell though but defenatly leaks from at the bottom washer) I have swaped the hoses and replaced with another new one. I have tryed new copper washer and tryed using the old ones over. I have wipped down all surfaces with a shop cloth. I cannot see any air gaps anywhere but if you push the brake it leaks bad.

Does anyone have any ideas or thoughs what so ever. I am out of ideas here. Thank you very much.

Yeah, there should be one copper washer on each side of the hose bracket thing that the bolt goes through. If your only using one, that is most likely your problem. And make sure the bolt is TIGHT. The washer is soft for a reason. It's supposed to form to those rings/ridges on the caliper. If that ain't your problem, I don't know what else it would be...

That should be it though....

I had the same problem after swapping out a caliper. After a spirited drive, the leak seemed to go away... I ALWAYS have some sort of problem every single time i do a brake job on any of my cars. Its a job i dread doing.

good luck!

I have now replaced the entire caliper. Yes I am using two copper washers one on each side. I put new ones on with the caliper. I still had some of a leak so I torqued the bolt to 25flbs the leak is almost gone but it is still there. I dont know what to do anymore. Every part down there is new. This type of connection is suppose to be stupid proof. Any final suggestions?

Check the torque specification for your model year. The amount of torque required (specified) for the flex hose bolt on the model year I just quickly looked at was 30 to 45 foot pounds of torque. If this is correct for your model year then 25 foot pounds of torque is likely to allow fluid to leak.

It is a 95. Your talking the hollow bolt that holds the hose to the caliper is suppose to be torqued to 35 - 40. I was getting worried when I was at 25. Can someone who has the info verify this for me please?

Keep in mind that the copper washers, one on top of the flex hose (rubber brake line) and the one under the flex hose connection to the caliper, are intended to be compressed so that the sealing rings are impressed into the copper and give you a seal. The brake line pressures are significant. I'm sure that the torque pressure is the same for a 95, but I do not have a Helms Manual for 95, so wait for someone to confirm the torque specification.

I just looked at another model and year Ford manual and the torque specification was 23 to 29 foot pounds of torque (disk brake caliper). I double checked the 90 disk brake specification and it is what I said earlier. Wait for confirmation.
