My taurus seems to bog from about 1000-2400 rpms in first (well its more noticable in first) I thought someone on the forum said that this can be due to bad plugs and wires so I replaced them. car still seems to bog.
There are a few problems I'm aware of. firstly the donut gasket in the exaust goin from the downpipe to the catback(you know the one with spring bolts.) is so bad that the car makes noises like theres a hole in the exhaust only when its in gear. also there some internal engine problem journals are rubbing or something.

The plugs and wires usually show their age and decrepitude by causing a misfire or stumble. And for the record, when you have a misfire without a CHECK ENGINE light, the cause of the problem is usually the plugs and/or wires.

A bog or power loss condition at a specific rpm range is normally the result of an imprecise air:fuel mixture. High rpm power loss can be cause by intake or exhaust restrictions or fuel flow or pressure limitations, but low rpm power losses are usually caused by an overly rich or lean mixture.

With that said, you should examine the components that provide input to the EEC so that it may regulate the air:fuel ratio. Perform the key on, engine off (KOEO) test and key on, engine running (KOER) test to let the electronic engine control (EEC) computer check for error conditions. t will report these through the CHECK ENGINE light. See the link in my signature for a good site to familiarize yourself with this very simple process.

How old are the oxygen sensors? The air filter? The fuel filter? Perform the idle speed reset (see the sticky post at the top of this section) to require the EEC to relearn the engine's operating requirements. Check and clean if required the mass air flow (MAF) sensor filiments. It could be dead spot in the throttle position sensor (TPS) or other monitored sensor, but the EEC tests will be a good start to let the engine help you to figure out the source of the problem.
