I have used the 1991 Ford SHO Owner's Manual specified Type F (or Mercon) ATF or the Redline D4. The Redline was used for about 50,000 miles but was lost during a clutch replacement. I have been just as pleased with the much cheaper Type F and a little of Ford's stinky friction modifier.
I am still using my fully functional, never rebuilt, original equipment, manual transaxle. To go through multiple replacements makes we wonder how much abuse those boxes are being subjected to. The SHO was not designed to be a drag racer. Now you know.
