First of all, how are you driving the car? If you're constantly doing burnouts and romping the gas, you will go through transmissions. These trannies are not exactly known for their durability, and lots of one-wheel burnouts will **** your differential. If you're taking it easy, the tranny shouldn't be giving out like that. Other than that, I have no idea why your tranny would be crapping out like that.

As for fluid, good old ATF works fine, or you could go with Redline or Amsoil tranny fluid, both of which I believe are synthetics (and from what I hear, well worth the cost).

It's been so long since I replaced tranny fluid so I forget if Dex.III is ordinary manual trans fluid or auto fluid. Anyway the MTX uses ATF not the gear oil.

I only use redline in the trannys I care about. D4 in the 91-95 trannys and MTL in the 89-90 that haven't been rebuilt. DON'T do burnouts dude!

BTW, I have enough trannys to last even you a lifetime. Email me if you need one. [email protected]

Marcus, how much is the MTL? I've a feeling my tranny is telling me to change its fluid, and I've heard nothing but good things about Redline's stuff.

I have used the 1991 Ford SHO Owner's Manual specified Type F (or Mercon) ATF or the Redline D4. The Redline was used for about 50,000 miles but was lost during a clutch replacement. I have been just as pleased with the much cheaper Type F and a little of Ford's stinky friction modifier.

I am still using my fully functional, never rebuilt, original equipment, manual transaxle. To go through multiple replacements makes we wonder how much abuse those boxes are being subjected to. The SHO was not designed to be a drag racer. Now you know.

How bout a little more info here? Which Porche tranny would mate with the said adaptor? I would assume that ther are a lot of bits needed to make this work with the linkage.

To go through 2 trannies in a month is bad. I do a few burn outs every now and then and my tranny with 130k miles is fine. I think there is more to it then just fluid. Why do your trannies go out?

To: 91shotogo...Comming from a Ford dealership parts dept background of 15 years, Ford had an oil designated for use in the SHO mtx. Ford discontinued this product about 4 years ago. The factory recomends any semi synthetic -to- full synthetic "mercon" or dexron atf fluid. (The original product was a full synthetic red atf fluid)

The service manuals say:
1989- Type F or Dexron II ATF
1990- Type F or Mercon ATF
1991- Mercon ATF
1992- Mercon ATF
1993- Mercon ATF
1994- Mercon ATF
1995- Mercon ATF

The specification books call for the same, but recommended synthetic Mercon in
1993 and 1995.
