Scott aka Gen 1 Lover had called me several weeks ago regarding my red 89.
He called me at 11pm and we talked for 1/2 hour.
He told me he was 31 and a serious buyer.
He wanted the dash replaced and the car trailered to him.
No problem.
I bought the donor dash, sent him pics and asked for a $300 security deposit.
No reply.
So about a week later I sent Scott another PM.
About a week later he read it but no contact from him.

Just tonight I called Scott asking why no contact.
He hung up on me.
Beware of this looser people.

His ad is here. http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=108511
Hopefully they buyer won't back out of his deal like he did for me.

Will you be sending a stereo?
I can start on the dash transplant early next week.
But only if you are certain of purchase.
I have other thing more pressing.
Per our previous conversation I feel that you are.
Would you like to put a down payment?
Kevin.

Those quotes are way cheap, be careful.
Fuel alone for a round trip at 10mpg is 100 gallons.
At $3.00 per gallon is $300, at $4.00 per gallon is $400.
Not to mention the drivers time, stopping for meals and refuelling.

They will head East to West with a truckload of cars.....12 cars at $300 to $800 each heading this way.
Since we are just one state a part, they would use the LIFO method with this....Last on First off....
How is the dash & Ac coming?
Should I give you a deposit now?
Thanks

Kevin and I talked a month ago.

I was interested in his car at one time (beginning of April)....... he has this fantasy that he only fixed the dash because of me......

EVERYONE here knows that he would have fixed the dash anyway...... so Kevin.... chin up champ... your 45 years old..... quit playing the victim..... the dash was junk..... you wouldn't have done all you did with the car.....only to leave a junk dash in the car.....get in the real world.

I had a time constraint that I wanted the car in..... he was wishy washy at best..... claiming that his time was limited, as he was moving a man in with him, and he wanted to get a truck running for his man-friend to drive.

So I let it drop. The end. I think this is a simple case of Kevin knows my 1990 with 118k actual, with receipts for everything, and Gen 3 rims on it....at $2400.00 made it impossible for his 1989, with 190,000, for $3300.00 FIRM to ever sell on this website...... so as soon as he saw my sell was pending, he flew into a jealous uproar realizing that this makes his 89 worth about $1900.00.

If this is what you guys call "juicy"....I would find new hobbies...or new juice.

BEWARE......if you ask Kevin a question about any of his "timepieces"..... this locks you into a 16 page, notarized contract sealed with blood..... in his mind anyway.

To be honest with you, I would Much rather have Kevins car over yours. Yes, The interior on your car is nice, The gen III Wheels look good and its been mantained...But there is a ton of rust on the body of your car. I've seen Kevins 89 in person and the car looks really good and (Besides the Dash) had a good looking interior.

As far as Mileage? I think Mileage has nothing to do it with for SHO's that have anything over 75+ Thousand Miles. I paid 2900 for my 200,000 Mile 89. However, It's condition would put many 89's with half the Mileage on it to shame.

These are all important things right?

In the end, a cars main function is to get you from A to B
This put mechanics at the top of the list.

...But there is a ton of rust on the body of your car.

Wrong. The Elam twins on this website have seen my car in person. There is not "a ton" of rust..... it just so happens that I showed detailed photos depicting the car at it's absolute worst..... so that any buyer would be happy once they saw the car in person.

Mileage matters on every car. Anyone who believes otherwise is trying to justify the realization that paid too much for a car with high miles. I think you will find a small percentage of SHO lovers on this website that would pay $2900 for 200,000 miles SHO.

Any SHO with proper MX is going to run like a top no matter the Mileage. The 220+ Thousand Mile 3.0 in my Race car...that is sprayed none the less... Runs perfect. My 200,000 mile 2900 dollar 89 is in as EVERY bit as good condition as the car your selling. Except...The conditon of my Interior is EVEN better then yours and the rust is not there either not to mention it was purchased from the original owner with every single MX recepit from Day 1.

Your wanted to compare car against car... I just don't think your car is in better shape then Kevins. And despite what your say, Thats a lot of rust on that car... It would EASILY cost a couple of grand to have it repaired properly.

1) My car has 70,000 less miles than Kevin's
2) My car has near perfect all leather interior, with fuzzy, new-like carpet.... no hint of chain smoke, booze, or pit bulls.... Isn't Kevin's grey 50/50 seats with cigarette burns.... with tan carpeting?
3) Mine has the kick ass factory JBL cd system......Kevin's was the base model....I say "was" as it has no stereo now.
4) And last.... and certainly not least..... despite my $2900.00 is maintenance records since February of of this year..... my car is priced $900.00 less....

While Kev was waxing the bumpers.... I was having $740.00 clutches installed for premium performance.

None of this is going to matter in a few hours when the new owners flight arrives, and he is here to pick up the car.

Kev's 89 has been for sale since the first rigged "Dubya" Bush presidentcy, so for you Sam, or anyone else interested at that steal at $3300, I'm sure you will have another 3 or 7 years to decide if that's the car for you.

All I gotta say is Kevin is stand-up guy and I have known him for years. I'd be wary of you long before him. I have had countless purchases with him and never once had any issue.

My 2 cents... your add sounds like the stereotypical used car salesman while Kevin is many times too honest providing every microscopic flaw in his cars. I have much more respect for that method.

Pick and choose your battles... Kevin has many friends on here including me.

Yes. I understand Kevin has a long reputation of being a buddy on here. I didn't expect everyone or anyone to come rushing to my aide.....a new guy that no one knows.

While my ad did use some of what they call "excitement" words to draw attention, the ad also goes on to show very detailed photos of any issues. I showed the kind of pictures that I myself would appreciate as a buyer.

When it's all said & done. I never had a problem with Kevin.
He and I last had contact well over 5 weeks ago.
I showed interest.....I spoke with him...... I lost interest.

I never made promises....nor did I waste his time doing something he wouldn't have done otherwise.

He has played this game long enough to know that when you have something for sale to the general public, the item is sold when the cash hits your hand..... and a long the way, you usually here lots of offers, people come and go, and one finally buys. I was nothing more than someone who came & went.

Can the members of this forum understand that?

Any of you ever changed your mind before?
Ever got married? Only to get divorced later.
Ever start smoking? Only to wish you never started smoking.
Ever been interested in a car? Only to end up buying another car.

Kevin may be the godfather to all your kids, and maybe I should have sent a registered letter to him saying NO LONGER INTERESTED, THANKS.

But I also think that it shows lack of class & tact to be harassing me the way Kevin did...... ****** emails... check. ******* phonecalls...check. He was like a jilted & scorned lover.

If I made ****** phonecalls to every Craigslister that showed interest in a car I've had for sale, only never to be heard from again.....I'd have to install a toilet by the phone, as i would still be on the phone.

Bottom line: He is now ready...really ready to move that 89....he has it on every Craigslist East of the Mississippi....and with my car at $2400, it stunts the chances of his $3300 sale. In all these weeks he had to touch base with me, he waits until I put "sale pending" on my paid ad, then attempts to sabotage the sale...... I agree with -DVP-.....the douche train has arrived.

As an uninterestec 3'rd party, my only observation would be that when Gen 1 Lover lost interest in the car, it would have been proper for him to email mrecoolgar and state that fact.......due to financial set back, bought another car, unrest at workplace, whatever.
That would have avoided this.

I agree 100%. Had I known that not doing so would lead to harrassing emails and phone calls over a month later, I certainly would have done so. My mistake.

Common courtesy is all I expect, from everyone I deal with.
This is not about my car vs your car.
This is about courtesy and respect for others.
Your lack of contact or follow through has diminished your character.

Circumstances change and we all know stuff happens.
If you would have stated so to me, there would be no hard feelings.
Yes, I’m glad I obtained the replacement dash.
I’ve been meaning to get it for some time.
And as you can see, it wasn’t installed in hopes you would follow through.
I am 45 years old and have learned much in that time.

My car has been for sale for two years.
It’s not going anywhere until I want it to go.
I’m not financially hurting and do not need the car to go.
I still have five SHO’s and six other vehicles.
In fact, this year has been very good.

These are the facts.
1) You appeared serious and offered to send a deposit.
2) I never heard from you again.
3) The only reason you are on shoforum is to sell your car.
4) I knew you were selling your Titanium 90 when you first posted it on 4/26/2010.
5) I’ve also been watching it on eBay, duh.
6) And the fact that you berate me instead of apologize speaks for itself.
7) You are the one needing to sell right now. From $3500 down to $2400. Then around $1700 on eBay.
8) You deleted my posts on your for sale thread.

As for my CraigsList ad.
I periodically post one, and in the Harrisburg PA section only.
Your lie of “He is now ready...really ready to move that 89....he has it on every Craigslist East of the Mississippi” makes you appear the dullard.

Answer this.
1) Have you learned anything?

My thanks to all that do know me and your support.
You know I’m easy going and not quick to temper… unless provoked.

Negatory Kevin. A mod deleted your posts in his For Sale thread as he paid for an ad, thread crapping in a paid for ad is not allowed. Your distaste for him and the way he handled a possible transaction belongs here, in the hall of fame/shame. Not in his for sale thread.

That being said, interior is easier to repair/replace than structural body rot. I'd rather have a mechanically sound car with a solid straight body and grungy interior than a car thats mechanically sound with an immaculate interior and a rotted body.

All this is neither here nor there though as this thread is not a one car vs another car. It is feedback from an almost happened transaction that went south

I always like to call people selling cars, tell them I am very interested, discuss probable shipping methods (b/c that is how tire kickers look legitimate) and then let them invest more money and time.

An 89 cannot be compared to a 90. Plain and simple.
