Forum Members, Help!

I am electrically, um, dis-inclined and need some help with a couple wiring tasks. I'd like to hardwire a couple of accessories: (a) a GTechPro and (b) a radar detector.

Since I don't want to use the cigarette lighter adapter, what's the best approach to wiring the power for these devices?

Any and all help is appreciated!

Thanks,

The sell hardwire kits at bestbuy and walmart. Do you have a moonroof? That would make things alot easier I would think. If you do just take down the maplight assembly. Once that is down you could tap into a 12v wire in there. Probably off of the moonroof motor. Get a wiring diagram, that would also help. From there. You should probably grind a small notch in the front of the maplight cover, for the wires to come through. Figure out someway to get the cord to stay flush to the windsheil, or you will have a wire hanging down. You could also try to find a live 12v wire in the dash. I don't know of any that are easily accessible, though. Check it out.

if you cant find anything else, use the wires at the steering column. yellow is constant, ignition is red with green stripe, and accesory is grey with yellow stripe, A brown scotch lock is sufficent to splice into these wires. you can ground it to any solid metal of the vehicle, preferably a factory bolt, but a self tapping screw and ring terminal will suffice.

PS with my radar detector, i mounted it above my rear view mirror, ran the power wire under the headliner to the driver side pillar, grounded it there with a self tapper, ran the power wire down the inside of the pillar, combined it with the wire from my heated seats switch, fused it, and t-tapped it into my red with green ignition wire at the column harness.

I mounted my bel 980 just BELOW the rearview mirror. I ran the wires through the headliner, down the passenger side A-pillar, then under the dash to the center console. I then used the power at the REAR of the cigarette lighter to hardwire it there. Power AND ground are right there for your convenience. I just tapped into what was already there. No muss, no fuss, and I still maintained the front of my cigarette lighter to power my cell phone. Works for me.

For my radar detector, I have it above the rear view mirror. I ran the wire across the top of the windshield, down the pillar and to the fuse box. I used a blade fuse tap from RadioShack to tap into the Accessory fuse. They come in a pack of about 10. If you use them, your gonna wanna break off the one side of the fuse tap to make it fix.
